Reno 911! Star Thomas Lennon Discusses Another Reunion

As a die-hard cinema enthusiast who has seen more movies than I have had hot dinners, I must say that Thomas Lennon is an absolute gem of the comedy world. His latest role in “Chosen Family” showcases his impeccable comedic timing and ability to steal scenes effortlessly, much like he did on the beloved mockumentary series, “Reno 911!”.

I had a chat with comedic actor Thomas Lennon, well-known for his roles in shows like The State, Reno 911!, The Odd Couple, Viva Variety and more recently, Heather Graham’s new movie Chosen Family. In this film, Lennon plays Matt, a riotously funny character who supports his friend Ann (Graham), a single yoga instructor struggling to bond with her boyfriend’s troublesome seven-year-old daughter. This is just the latest in a series of comedic roles for Lennon, whom you might recall best from Reno 911! on Comedy Central. It seems that further collaborations between the show’s cast could potentially happen in the future.

Lennon expressed that it’s difficult to envision not making more of “Reno 911!” as we’ve already gathered all the costumes, which is typically the most challenging aspect. When we create it, you can see that we don’t put much thought into it; in fact, we often think less about it than usual.

“But what’s neat to me to see, is that… we never really reference politics. We never really reference time.
Reno 911!,
in some ways, is like
The Simpsons
, which is: The characters never grow up. They never mature. They never get better, they never learn anything. Like, every
Reno 911!
starts exactly at zero again, which is one of the fun things about it…
We literally are a cartoon. We’re animated characters, except we’re alive
.”

Who Is Thomas Lennon’s Chosen Family?

During the interim, Lennon successfully portrays his character in Heather Graham’s second directorial venture, titled “Chosen Family”. This is their second collaboration together. Speaking about it, Lennon shared with us, “I feel fortunate enough to be part of two of Heather’s films. The first one was ‘Half Magic’, a film that I recommend you watch if you haven’t already. It’s quite funny! In the first movie, I had auditioned for her, and she turned out to be even more delightful than I anticipated. She has a great sense of humor, loves comedy, and enjoys laughter. And almost instantly, I thought, ‘She has a fantastic sense of humor; this will be an enjoyable person to work with.’ True to form, the experience was as fun as I had imagined it would be.

Lennon shared insights on how he related to the core theme of Graham’s “Chosen Family” narrative, giving us a peek into his thought process.

“For a significant part of my adult life, I’ve spent more hours with my comedy group, The State, than with my biological family, except for my sister who joined the fold by marrying into the group. This connection, which I call my ‘chosen family’, resonates deeply with me because it consists of people I spend more time with than my literal family.”

Currently, “Chosen Family” from Brainstorm Media can be seen in cinemas or streamed online on various platforms such as YouTube, Google Play, Fandango Now, and Apple TV.
