‘Resident Evil Zero’ Remake Rumored to Launch Soon: Insider Leaks Reveal New Details

Two years on from the triumphant release of the Resident Evil 4 Remake, CAPCOM is gradually sparking anticipation for its future Resident Evil games. Whispers are spreading online about a possible remake of Resident Evil Zero and the long-awaited continuation of the series, Resident Evil 9.

The Twitter user @AestheticGamer1, more commonly recognized as Dusk Golem, mused on a particular post that it’s possible Resident Evil Zero could align with the franchise’s 30th anniversary celebration next year.

Based on his well-known track record of revealing details about Resident Evil, Dusk Golem shared valuable opinions on why this remake might be happening. He pointed out that Screen Gems/Constantin Film, the production company behind the Resident Evil films, must hold onto the rights to the Resident Evil brand for them to continue making movies related to it.

He mentioned that there should be a fresh Resident Evil movie every five financial years, and he highlighted that the upcoming reboot by Zach Cregger (popular for Barbarian) will start filming soon, with an anticipated release next year, following the 2021 debut of Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.

Through several updates about X, Dusk Golem shared his conviction that Zach Cregger’s upcoming movie is likely to be a cinematic interpretation of Resident Evil Zero, the initial game in the series based on its timeline.

For those who haven’t played it yet, Resident Evil: Zero focuses on Rebecca Chambers and Billy Coen from the S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team as they delve into an abandoned Umbrella Corporation research facility. Those well-versed in the series know that this game unfolds a grim destiny for its main characters, connecting their story with that of Alpha Team, which follows next.

To be frank, I, as a diehard Resident Evil fan, find myself puzzled by CAPCOM’s choice to remake Zero, especially considering that Resident Evil Code: Veronica holds a special place in many of our hearts, being a favorite among long-time franchise enthusiasts.

Dusk Golem thinks that this major overhaul – for both the movie and the game – marks a new phase in CAPCOM’s marketing approach for Resident Evil, referred to as “The Start and End of the Saga.” This plan is projected to cover all recent Resident Evil releases, culminating in the yet-to-be-unveiled Resident Evil 9.

It’s expected that Capcom will simultaneously launch the remake of Resident Evil Zero and a new movie. This move seems to indicate their plan to rekindle curiosity about the roots of the Resident Evil series.

A significant prediction by Dusk Golem is that, given the potential marketing partnership between CAPCOM and Nintendo, the Resident Evil Zero remake could potentially appear on the Nintendo Switch 2 as well. It’s not anticipated to be exclusive to any console, but rather a game likely to be developed for multiple platforms.

Apart from delving into the topic of the Resident Evil Zero remake, Dusk Golem also offered some intriguing insights regarding the potential development of Resident Evil 9. He posits that the year 2026 could be a crucial milestone for CAPCOM’s Resident Evil series, as several major announcements about the franchise are anticipated.

It’s possible that fans could get a sneak peek at a preview trailer for Resident Evil 9 at this summer’s Games Festival, or perhaps during the 2025 Game Awards.
