Revenge of the Savage Planet Looks Like Ratchet & Clank with Co-Op

I wasn’t expecting much from “Revenge of the Savage Planet,” given its title, thinking it would just be a follow-up to the vibrant first-person shooter game “Journey to the Savage Planet. But boy, was I in for a surprise!

As a fervent admirer, I must say that the upcoming sequel appears to be venturing into uncharted territory, as it transforms Revenge into a thrilling third-person platformer, brimming with vibrant arsenals. The game exudes an unmistakable Ratchet & Clank aura, and I can’t help but feel an intense anticipation for its completion. What truly piques my interest is the co-op mode, promising some electrifying multiplayer experiences.

Developed by Raccoon Logic Studios, “Revenge of the Savage Planet” was one of the captivating games featured during the Future Games Show Spring Showcase on Steam. This game caught attention due to its striking, colorful graphics that make it distinct from other titles. The initial game, “Journey,” also boasted vivid visuals, but the third-person view adds an extra layer to its appeal.

Much like the Journey of the Savage Planet, Revenge also features two characters stuck on a hostile planet teeming with flora and fauna that aim to eliminate you. The equipment given is minimal, coming from a rather unintelligent corporation, leaving players responsible for exploring, surviving, and seemingly annihilating everything they encounter.

Similar to its predecessor, Savage Planet’s Vengeance eschews real-world authenticity in favor of an unadulterated gaming experience. You’ll find weapons capable of summoning black holes, firing Nickelodeon-esque slime that annihilates enemies, and the classic laser blasts to evoke the familiar Ratchet & Clank vibe. The visuals are impressive as well, promising a thrilling adventure, provided the game development proceeds smoothly.

In this game, we don’t just admire video game elements that involve weapons; there’s also a good amount of platforming and rail grinding. Having multiple movement options generally enhances video games, and being able to perform jumps and grinds at will should delight fans of platformers. It seems the creators are aiming for a style reminiscent of PS2-era platformers, and they’re certainly hitting the mark in terms of atmosphere.

Since PlayStation seems to have paused development on Ratchet & Clank following the relatively low sales of Rift Apart, it might be that gamers will find a similar experience with games like Revenge of the Savage Planet. Just like Ratchet & Clank, Revenge of the Savage Planet offers a pure gaming experience with excellent platforming and plenty of shooting. With not many big 3D platformers available besides Astro Bot, this could turn out to be something quite unique.

The ferocious world of “Savage Planet” is set for launch on Steam by May 8, 2025. Developers have hinted at potential plans for a Nintendo Switch 2 version as well, which would be fantastic!
