Be sure not to refer to the reanimated corpses in SYFY’s Revival as “zombies.” Instead, they are something more intricate, as the cast and creators detail in a fresh featurette before the series premieres on June 12.
In this world, those who were once considered deceased are referred to as “Revivers.” Despite their previous state of being dead, they behave and speak exactly as they did before passing away, although some possess extraordinary strength. If a Reviver died with a specific physical injury, that wound will persist, but any damage sustained afterwards heals immediately.

According to Aaron B. Koontz, the co-creator, showrunner, and executive producer alongside Luke Boyce, nothing about these situations seems unusual to them, except for statements like “I had a heart attack,” “I fell asleep and woke up,” or “I was murdered.
In simpler terms, Phil Brooks, who frequently appears as a guest on this show and is also known as WWE wrestler CM Punk, mentioned that Tim Seely, the writer of the comic that our series is based on, might give him a hard time if he used the term “zombie.

The central enigma is carried by Dana Cypress, a small-town cop and single mother played by Melanie Scrofano (from ‘Wynonna Earp’), who has personal stakes in the supernatural world since her own sister Martha “Em” Cypress (Romy Weltman from ‘Murdoch Mysteries’) comes back to life. The supporting cast includes David James Elliott from ‘Mad Men’ as Wayne Cypress, Dana and Martha’s father, and Andy McQueen from ‘Mrs. Davis’, portraying Ibrahim Ramin, a CDC scientist investigating the Reviver phenomenon.
Alongside Brooks, the cast of recurring supporting actors also features Steven Ogg from “The Walking Dead”, Gia Sandhu known for “A Simple Favor”, Katherine King So recognized in “The Recruit”, Maia Jae from “In the Dark”, Nathan Dales starring in “Letterkenny”, Mark Little from “Doomlands”, Glen Gould appearing in “Tulsa King”, Lara Jean Chorostecki famous for “Nightmare Alley”, and Conrad Coates, who has been seen on “Fargo”.
Among the talented team of executive producers I’m fortunate to be a part of, you’ll find Lance Samuels, Daniel Iron, Samantha Levine, Neil Tabatznik, Daniel March, Melanie Scrofano, Greg Hemmings, Stephen Foster, and Amanda Row. Alongside Koontz and Boyce, these individuals are instrumental in shaping the creative direction of our project.
