- Rhythm Control 2 resurrects the original 2012 release for new devices
- Find it on Android with songs from both Western and Japanese bands
- Tap to the beat and accrue ridiculous high scores!
It’s consistently surprising that mobile platforms don’t have a more vibrant rhythm game scene, although games like Beatstar by Space Ape have made an impact. However, the majority of this genre still appears to be thriving primarily on PC and other platforms. Yet, we’ve recently seen a return with the unexpected release of Rhythm Control 2, now available for Android!
Experienced and aged individuals might recall the title, as it’s due to Rhythm Control 2 having been launched back in the golden era of 2012. The initial Rhythm Control was said to have dominated the charts in Japan and Sweden, making a follow-up appear logical.
In a fresh take on the usual gameplay style, Rhythm Control 2 offers a diverse collection of tracks from artists like Bit Shifter, YMCK, Boeoes Kaelstigen, and Slagsmålsklubben (both Japanese and Western). Instead of tapping falling icons as in traditional versions, you’ll encounter six nodes that need to be tapped sequentially. As the game progresses, these sequences become more intricate, offering unexpected twists and turns for an engaging challenge.
Control yourself
Rhythm Control 2 appears to be an excellent choice for expanding the genre, making a comeback on mobile devices. While I appreciate Beatstar, I’ve often felt its song selection leans towards the predictable. It seems the essence of rhythm games lies in the pursuit of a top score and the frustration that comes with an unexpected deep dive into an obscure Japanese techno genre, igniting a lifelong fascination – or even obsession – with such a niche scene.
