Ridley Scott Is Working On A New Alien Movie, And As A Fan, I'm Chestbursting With Excitement

As a lifelong Alien fan who has been through more than one xenomorph infestation (metaphorically speaking), I couldn’t be more thrilled about the news of Ridley Scott returning to the fold. The man who brought us the original masterpiece and later, Prometheus, is now working on a new Alien movie. It’s like hearing the sweet, eerie hum of a xenomorph’s approach, but instead of fear, I feel exhilaration.

I was overjoyed beyond words to witness the stunning success of Alien: Romulus during its theater release in 2024. Fede Álvarez’s prequel-sequel was a gripping and ominous production that demonstrated the enduring appeal of the saga, regardless of whether or not Ellen Ripley was involved.

As a hardcore Alien fan, I’m practically bursting out of my seat with anticipation! It seems like the universe I love is growing even more, with hints of an expanded Alien movie timeline. Not only are we getting a sequel to Romulus, but the legendary Ridley Scott himself is cooking up something new!

Ridley Scott’s Super Busy Dance Card Now Includes An Alien Sequel

A THR article highlights some upcoming projects from Scott and his production company, Scott Free. These include a script by Joe Penhall about the Battle of Britain, the previously mentioned thriller titled “Bomb,” written by Kevin McMullin, and the ongoing development of “Gladiator III.

It appears that Scott’s past regrets about not creating sequels for films like “Blade Runner” and “Alien” may have prompted him to resurrect and expand the series he once abandoned. The strong language expressed in reaction to “Alien: Romulus” doesn’t seem to reflect his overall enthusiasm for the Xenomorph universe, as indicated by his potential return. This development could not be more timely, given that there seems to be an essential story he aims to conclude with a possible sequel.

What I Think This New Ridley Scott Alien Movie Will Be About

It’s no secret that I have a soft spot for epic films set in the swing era, and I’ve made my admiration clear on multiple occasions – even going as far as discussing why I believe Halloween III stands out among other classic series installments. Therefore, it won’t come as a shock to hear that I’m smitten with how Prometheus and Alien: Covenant have contributed to 20th Century Studios’ enduring franchise.

That thread is what I believe Ridley Scott will revisit with his upcoming project. Given how skillfully Fede Álvarez and frequent collaborator/co-writer Rodo Sayagues interwove references to various entries in the Alien series, there seems to be ample opportunity for another installment in this saga’s earlier timeline.

The ending of “Alien: Covenant” was left quite vague, implying that Michael Fassbender’s character David may have more roles to play. Whether Ridley Scott plans to wrap up this storyline in one film or continue it with a few more installments is unclear. However, given his bold storytelling and impressive casting choices, I would certainly welcome his return to the “Alien” series.

For a brief instant, let’s take a step back into the present world. As of now, it remains uncertain whether we’ll get to watch the upcoming Alien movie by Ridley Scott any time soon. Beyond speculation, none of us outside of Scott Free Productions’ inner circle have any clue about the actual plot of this film. What I can confirm is that 20th Century Studios has high hopes for both the Alien and Predator franchises, and I’m excited to see where they take these stories further.

Regardless of who comes out on top, we’re the real winners here, as a Hulu subscription gives you nearly unlimited access to many renowned science fiction novels. However, if you’re keen on watching “Alien: Romulus”, your options are either to rent or purchase it digitally at present, or hold on until December 3rd for the physical release, which marks a significant VHS comeback from a major studio in over a decade. Until our next encounter, take care not to let any bedbugs bother you!
