These endearing, blue creatures from comic book lore are making a comeback on the big screen through a reboot film, spearheaded by none other than Rihanna herself. Smurfette takes the lead right from the start, and while the film promises plenty of catchy tunes, it’s not just about toe-tapping melodies. The heart of the story revolves around the Smurfs joining forces to save their beloved leader, Papa Smurf, who has been kidnapped by the wizards Gargamel and Razamel. This adventure promises to be a fun and zany journey that will see these tiny heroes stepping into our world.
Listening to Rihanna’s melodious voice is undeniably pleasing, yet I find myself drawing attention to the frequent appearances of the word “smurf” in the dialogue. It serves as both a noun and a verb, but what amuses me most is its use as a stand-in for profanity, considering the movie’s intended audience is children. Even as an adult, I can’t help but chuckle whenever someone utters the word. Take a look at how often it’s used even in just the trailer!

I’m eagerly anticipating how the word will be incorporated into the film in various ways.

This movie certainly garners attention with its impressive cast, including John Goodman, Nick Offerman, James Corden, Xolo Maridueña, Sandra Oh, Natasha Lyonne, and Kurt Russell. However, Rihanna is undeniably the star of the show, as she’s been actively promoting it – even going so far as to participate in an underwear campaign. (The blue and white tracksuit she wears in behind-the-scenes footage before the trailer is quite stylish too.) From her previous statements, it appears that Rihanna found recording the film enjoyable, despite doing so while pregnant. Though fans might be eager for a new album from her, they can at least look forward to enjoying her singing voice in the movie. If you have kids, it could make for a fun family outing!
Rihanna, known for her fashion flair as the “Diamonds” singer, is expected to elegantly embody the character of Smurfette, and it’s likely she’ll catch attention on the premiere’s red carpet, just like she did when giving birth with pearls and sunglasses. Furthermore, keep in mind that young viewers might find themselves using the term “smurf” more frequently after watching this movie.
