RIMOWA Teams up With Vitra For Limited-Edition Collection

Summary

  • RIMOWA and Vitra’s first collaboration features a limited-edition mobile stool (aluminium exterior, upholstered interior) and an aluminium toolbox.
  • Inspired by modern life and emphasizing mobility and multifunctionality, these jointly manufactured pieces highlight the iconic aesthetics of both companies.
  • Launching June 18th, 2025, the Aluminium Stool (€2,200, 1000 units) and Toolbox (€550, 100 units) will be exclusively available in Europe via the RIMOWA website and worldwide at flagship stores.

RIMOWA and Vitra unveiled a special edition line consisting of only two items: a foldable seat on wheels, and a storage box for tools.

In a fresh partnership, the renowned German luggage maker and Swiss furniture brand have come together for the first time, creating two innovative pieces that reflect the “pulse of contemporary living.” These designs are not only versatile but also serve as a tribute to both companies’ expertise in working with aluminum.

The designs are made to be portable, with the stool being an exceptional example that utilizes the company’s Multiwheel system for mobility. The exterior, reminiscent of RIMOWA, is fashioned from distinctive grooved aluminum, while the interior, similar to Vitra, features fabric upholstery and storage compartments. Additionally, a cushion can be attached to the top, transforming this movable storage unit into a cozy seat.

According to Christian Grosen Ramussen, Chief Design Officer at Vitra, we only collaborate with a select few brands. These partnerships must align with our values, design philosophy, and aesthetic sensibilities; there should be a clear overlap in our shared vision.

Differences are essential as they ignite the spark, bring about the unexpected, and foster novelty. When collaborating, it’s vital that there’s a harmonious blend of strengths for the brands involved; the result should be greater than the sum of its parts, ideally equaling 3 or more. If not, the collaboration may lack sense.

The toolbox is modeled after the Vitra Toolbox designed by Arik Levy in 2010, but unlike the original which is made from recycled plastic, this version features RIMOWA’s signature anodized aluminum material. Additionally, to reflect Vitra’s expertise in upholstery, the interior compartments are lined with recycled fabric.

The partnership extends beyond just designing the items: both companies, RIMOWA and Vitra, produce these designs together in their respective factories located in Cologne and Weil am Rhein.

In simpler terms, Hugues Bonnet-Masimbert, RIMOWA’s CEO, notes that Vitra and RIMOWA are two well-known brands recognized for their exceptional skills in materials and unique designs. He explains that both companies share a strong commitment to durability and craftsmanship, making their collaboration a perfect representation of the concept of ‘design.’ This collaboration combines innovative ideas with aesthetics, demonstrating how these elements can harmoniously coexist.

On June 18th, 2025, we’re unveiling two new aluminum products: the Aluminum Stool and the Aluminum Toolbox, along with an installation on the Vitra Campus. The Aluminum Stool will be priced at €2,200, with a limited stock of 1,000 units, while the Aluminum Toolbox will cost €550 and only 100 pieces will be produced. These items will initially be available for purchase exclusively in Europe through RIMOWA.com, and at select flagship stores worldwide.
