As a die-hard fan of Middle Earth and its lore, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation as Charlie Vickers steps into the shoes of the infamous Sauron in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Having grown up with Tolkien’s masterpiece, it’s always fascinating to see how the characters we know and love are brought to life on screen.
Charlie Vickers, the actor portraying the legendary J.R.R. Tolkien character Sauron in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, expressed an unusual response when he learned that he was destined to play Sauron in the popular Prime Video prequel series. In an exclusive interview with MovieWeb, Vickers openly discussed his emotions, stating: “I felt a sense of relief when I discovered that Halbrand was indeed Sauron [during Season 1].”
“I believe it was the third episode from last season when I started to get hints that perhaps I might have been portraying Sauron. Some of my audition speeches, especially those for Satan and Richard III, made me a bit uneasy. But once I found out I could delve deeper into this character, it was like a weight lifted off my shoulders.”
He continued, “I had previously delved into some Sauron research. However, now I feel completely immersed and passionate about it. To put it frankly, there’s an added charm in portraying a character from established lore because there’s so much rich source material in Tolkien’s work to draw inspiration from.”
Suaron’s New Season 2 Look
As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to dive back into the world of Season 2 of this critically acclaimed series! Once again, the talented duo, J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, are steering the ship as showrunners and executive producers. The stellar cast is back, led by Morfydd Clark, Robert Aramayo, Daniel Weyman, Markella Kavenagh, Megan Richards, Benjamin Walker, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Sam Hazeldine, Patrick McKay himself, and Lindsey Weber. Can’t wait to see what they have in store for us this time around!
Towards the close of Season 1, the skilled elf forger Celebrimbor, under Halbrand’s (actually Sauron’s) guidance, crafted three additional powerful rings from the dwarves’ enchanted metal. These new rings were designed to complement the existing elven rings and grant their bearers control over other beings. Quite handy in a tight spot, isn’t it? In this new season, Charlie Vickers portrays Sauron as an enigmatic elf who exerts influence over Celebrimbor.
One significant alteration the actor had to make for his transformed appearance was wearing elaborate prosthetics, specifically elven ears. As Vickers humorously noted, “The addition of these ears adds an extra hour and a half to my morning routine, which is quite novel.” However, he’s formed some wonderful friendships with his prosthetic artists during the process, making it one of the highlights of the job.
