As a seasoned gamer of the news landscape, I’ve witnessed numerous shifts and changes over the years, but none as intriguing as the recent move by Newsmax. The 8 p.m. slot, once graced by Eric Bolling, now finds itself in the capable hands of Rob Finnerty.
Newsmax is undergoing a significant shift in its evening programming schedule, with Rob Finnerty taking over the 8 PM slot starting October 8, where he’ll be hosting a fresh show titled “The Finnerty Show“.
Currently, Finnerty shares the hosting duties on the morning show “Wake-Up America” at the conservative cable news channel with Sharla McBride. At this time, it’s uncertain about the future direction of the morning program on Newsmax.
8 PM was once my turf as Eric Bolling, a previous Fox News host turned Newsmax member since 2021. However, earlier this year, I decided to step away from the channel.
At 6 PM, the lineup on Newsmax features Greta Van Susteren, who has previously worked for CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC. Following her at 7 PM is Rob Schmitt, formerly of Fox News. Greg Kelly takes over at 9 PM, and Chris Plante leads a panel show at 10 PM.
Chris Ruddy, Newsmax’s CEO, stated that Rob has proven to excel in our morning program and resonates strongly with our viewers. He feels confident that this success will carry over into primetime as well.
For years, cable news has been dominated by just a few players, but Newsmax is showing that things are changing in this field,” Finnerty expresses. “I’m thrilled to be part of this transformation. Since joining Newsmax, I’ve witnessed its continual growth which is truly remarkable for our industry. This is an exceptional opportunity, and I am deeply thankful to Newsmax and its leadership, particularly CEO Chris Ruddy.
In a significant legal resolution, Smartmatic, a well-known voting machine company, has settled a defamation lawsuit that was initiated last month. This same firm is additionally embroiled in litigation with Fox News concerning similar allegations stemming from their post-election coverage in 2020.
Additionally, they are considering a public offering (IPO), as Ruddy previously shared with The Hollywood Reporter that the company anticipates generating between $180 million and $200 million in annual revenue for this year.
