As a dedicated gamer and avid follower of the entertainment industry, I can’t help but feel elated and inspired by the recent Emmys nominations for some beloved actors who have made waves in both Hollywood and the gaming world. Robert Downey Jr.’s versatility and talent were once again recognized with a nomination for best supporting actor in a limited series for his remarkable performances in HBO’s “The Sympathizer.” I’ve been a longtime fan of Downey’s, from his iconic role as Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to his gripping portrayals in films like “Sherlock Holmes” and “Tropic Thunder.” It’s always a treat to see him excel in new projects.
Robert Downey Jr. and Da’Vine Joy Randolph received more great news in 2022 with the Emmy Awards set for 2024.
After receiving Oscars awards earlier in 2023, Downey and Randolph were each recognized with Emmy nominations this week. Downey was among the contenders for best supporting actor in a limited series, specifically for his role portraying various characters on HBO’s “The Sympathizer.” Meanwhile, Randolph earned a nomination for best supporting guest actress in a comedy series, thanks to her performance as Detective Dee Williams on Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building.”
I’ve been following the Oscar and Emmy nominations closely this year, and I must say, it’s been a rollercoaster ride of emotions! One actress who really stood out to me is Lily Gladstone. She gave an exceptional performance in “Killers of the Flower Moon,” which earned her a well-deserved Oscar nomination for Best Actress. But that’s not all, she also shined in Hulu’s “Under the Bridge” as Cam Bentland, landing herself another nomination – this time for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series.
As a movie enthusiast and someone who has followed the careers of Hollywood actors closely, I must say that 2023 was truly a remarkable year for both Downey and Randolph. The 96th Academy Awards ceremony held a special place in my heart that night as I watched Randolph take home her first Oscar. Her win was a well-deserved recognition for her exceptional performance as Mary Lamb in “The Holdovers,” directed by the talented Alexander Payne. This achievement is a testament to her hard work, dedication, and talent. It’s an inspiring moment that reminds us all of the possibilities that lie ahead when we believe in ourselves and pursue our dreams.
While I was excitedly watching the Academy Awards unfold, Downey surprised us all by taking home his very first award – the best supporting actor accolade. He achieved this remarkable feat for his exceptional portrayal of Lewis Strauss in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.
Jamie Lee Curtis is a more recent Oscar nominee who also received an Emmys nomination in 2024. She was nominated for the guest actress role in a comedy series, which she played as Donna Berzatto on FX/Hulu’s “The Bear.” In 2023, Curtis earned her first Academy Award for her performance as Deirdre Beaubeirdre in the film “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert.
The full list of 2024 Emmys nominations can be seen here. The 2024 Emmy Awards will air live on Sunday, Sept. 15, at 8:00 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on ABC.
