As someone who’s been a Robert Pattinson fan since his days in Harry Potter and Twilight, it’s certainly delightful to witness his ongoing success as a major Hollywood star. Recently, he’s been globetrotting, promoting his role in Bong-Joon Ho’s latest film Mickey 17, even incorporating some fun TikTok trends along the way. The movie has garnered favorable initial reactions, including our own review of Mickey 17. However, it wasn’t until Pattinson humorously discussed who attended his recent premiere that I realized a large portion of his current fanbase is made up of men.
As a teenager, Robert Pattinson’s entrance captivated many with his handsome features and messy hair, turning him into an undeniable heartthrob for me as I observed the evolutions between the “Twilight” movies and books through his portrayal of Edward Cullen across five films. Therefore, it was amusing to see his remarks during the premiere of “Mickey 17”, which landed on the 2025 movie schedule. Here’s a snippet:
When Robert Pattinson debuted as a teen idol with his striking good looks and unkempt hair, he became an undisputed heartthrob for me as I witnessed the transformations between the “Twilight” book series and films through his portrayal of Edward Cullen across five movies. It was quite amusing to hear what he had to say at the premiere of “Mickey 17”, which made its way onto the 2025 movie calendar. Here’s a quick quote:
Robert Pattinson humorously pointed out that it was unusual to see a crowd of men cheering him at the Mickey 17 premiere, given that most of his fans have historically been young females. Here’s a snippet of the reaction on social media (X).
- “Tenet & Batman performances made me a PattinSTAN” – @wrwhisperer
- “He’s batman, so yeah.” – @justbenbyday
- “well DUH he was in tenet” – @nqxba
- “I mean after years of men going “Ew Twilight” whenever they see him, I can see why he’s shocked” – @wisdomofolde
- “he said, i am for the girls what is going on” – @ashvsthedead
It’s quite a shift, isn’t it? Back when the Twilight films were releasing, I heard plenty of criticism about Robert Pattinson’s acting abilities in them and even heard some men weren’t keen on him. But, over the past decade since the Twilight series ended, he has been starring in movies that have captivated male fans and now they’re attending premieres to cheer him on, much like the female fans did before.
On one side, I’ve been validated in my middle school preferences as the actor I adored back then is still having a captivating career. Despite some mediocre scripts and direction, he gave his best, even excelling in his role for the “Twilight” series.
It appears that the actor significantly increased his fanbase by collaborating with major directors such as Christopher Nolan and portraying Batman. However, a significant shift in his career can be traced back to his role in the Safdie Brothers’ film, “Good Time.” He has demonstrated that he is not just typecast from his work in “Twilight,” which was crucial for him to establish himself as a versatile actor. Interestingly, it seems like his initial supporters were predominantly women, who have been instrumental in his early career growth.
On the 7th of March, “Mickey 17”, Robert Pattinson’s latest film, will be out in theaters. Fans of all stripes, from avid Robert Pattinson girls to boys, are coming together for this movie, and I find that heartening.
