The successful Dune movie series is adding another prominent actor to its cast for the upcoming sequel, titled Dune: Messiah. This third installment in the series, which follows the novel of the same name, is being directed and written by Denis Villeneuve.
As reported by Deadline, filmmaker Denis Villeneuve and the studio are considering Robert Pattinson for a key role in Dune 3. According to the initial report, it’s uncertain which character he will play, but it’s suggested that it will be a major role, possibly the most significant among those being cast. The Hollywood Reporter further speculates that Pattinson might portray Scytale, the film’s main antagonist, based on his character’s introduction in Frank Herbert’s Messiah. If this is the case, he would join an already impressive ensemble cast that includes Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Zendaya as Chani, and Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, among others.
If Robert Pattinson agrees to star in “Dune 3”, it means he would be involved in three significant films this year. Currently, he’s filming “The Odyssey” directed by Christopher Nolan and is expected to start work on “The Batman Part II” by the end of the year. It’s a bit concerning how he might manage all these projects, given that the second installment of “The Batman” has been postponed several times. However, it’s not our place to worry; that’s for him and his agent to handle. Interestingly, Austin Butler is set to play Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen in “Dune: Part Two”, with Pattinson likely joining the cast afterwards. The “Dune” series just keeps getting better, adding an exceptionally gifted group of actors to its roster.
Who’s Returning for ‘Dune: Messiah’?
Filming for “Dune: Messiah” is set to start this summer, aiming for a theater release on December 18, 2026. However, the cast for the sequel has yet to be officially announced. So far, it’s confirmed that Paul Atreides, played by an unspecified actor, Zendaya as Chani, and Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho will return. Additionally, Josh Brolin and Florence Pugh are anticipated to reprise their roles. If you’re wondering about Momoa’s unexpected return as his beloved character, beware of spoilers if you delve into it. But beware, the character he plays might not be the same one we’ve grown fond of in previous films.
Approximately 12 years post the events of “Part Two,” the storyline in “Dune: Messiah” is expected to unfold, given the new order established at the end of the previous film. Viewers can expect a matured portrayal of the main characters from the original cast, as they delve deeper into Paul’s rule as the “Lisan al Gaib.” According to Nexus Point News, Leto and Ghanima, Chani’s twin children, will play significant roles in the sequel. Furthermore, if Robert Pattinson signs on for the role of Scytale, he might not start filming “The Batman Part II” until early 2026; in “Dune 3,” he would portray a Face Dancer from the Bene Tleilax.
