As a fan who has grown up admiring the larger-than-life presence of Carl Weathers on both the big and small screens, I am absolutely thrilled to hear that he is finally getting the recognition he so rightfully deserves with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. From his unforgettable roles in “Rocky,” “Predator,” and “Happy Gilmore” to his more recent appearances in “Arrested Development” and “The Mandalorian,” Weathers has left an indelible mark on Hollywood that will continue to inspire generations to come.
Legendary actor Carl Weathers will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame posthumously, as announced this week. The official Hollywood Walk of Fame social media platform shared the news, with Weathers being honored in the “Sports Entertainment” category, alongside tennis legend Billie Jean King.
“On August 29, at 11:30 a.m., the Hollywood Walk of Fame will pay tribute to the late actor Carl Weathers posthumously by placing a star in his honor. This special event can be watched live on www.walkoffame.com.”
As a longtime fan of cinema, I am thrilled to see such a diverse group of talented individuals being honored by the Hollywood Walk of Fame this year. Having grown up watching movies and admiring the stars who graced our screens, it warms my heart to witness the recognition given to these remarkable artists.
Known for acting roles in popular films such as Rocky, Predator, Happy Gilmore, and television shows like Arrested Development and The Mandalorian, Carl Weathers passed away peacefully in his sleep due to atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease on February 2, 2024, at the age of 76. His family released a statement at the time, expressing:
“It is with great sadness that we share the news of Carl Weathers’ passing. On Thursday, February 1st, 2024, he peacefully left this world in his sleep. Throughout his life, Carl was an exceptional individual who touched many lives through his work in movies, television, arts, and sports. His impact is felt globally and transcends generations. To those who knew him personally, he was a cherished brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend.”
Carl Weathers Had a Huge Impact on Hollywood
As news of my dear friend’s passing spread through the film industry, I couldn’t help but be moved by the heartfelt tributes pouring in from Hollywood. Two of my most memorable co-stars, Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, shared their personal reflections on our friendship and celebrated his extraordinary talent. In a poignant message, Stallone aptly described him as an unparalleled ‘greatness.’
“Carl Weathers was such an integral part of my life, my success… I give him incredible credit. When he walked into that room and I saw him for the first time, I saw greatness but I didn’t realise how great. I never could have accomplished what we did with Rocky without him. He was absolutely brilliant. Rest in power and keep punching.”
In the meantime, Schwarzenegger – who shared screen time with Weathers in the original Predator film – labeled Weathers as a “legend”, an “outstanding actor”, and a “wonderful individual”.
1. “Carl Weathers will forever remain an icon. He was not only an exceptional athlete and captivating actor, but also a remarkable individual. The film ‘Predator’ would not have been the same without him, and our experience during its production would not have been as enjoyable.”
A passionate golfer, Weathers was recently recognized by the Directors Guild Foundation (DGF) who announced that they would rename their primary annual fundraising event. The DGF made this decision to honor the “respected member and officer of the DGA, Carl Weathers, by renaming their main annual fundraiser after him. From now on, the tournament will officially be known as the Directors Guild Foundation Memorial Golf Tournament in memory of Carl Weathers.”
