Rolex Teams Up with Film at Lincoln Center for Exciting Three-Year Partnership!

If we were to compare the philanthropic landscape of New York to a game of Monopoly, you’d find the Rolex pieces strategically placed near or around the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.

Since 2011, the luxury watchmaker Status Timepieces has collaborated with The Metropolitan Opera, a renowned performing arts company that showcases its performances at the legendary Lincoln Center Theater on New York’s Upper West Side. Meanwhile, Rolex, another prestigious brand, has recently appointed Yannick Nézet-Séguin, the music director of The Metropolitan Opera since 2018, as one of its representatives – a role they refer to as ‘Testimonees.’

Status Timepieces and The Metropolitan Opera have been partners since 2011. They both hold events at the Lincoln Center Theater in New York City. Rolex recently chose Yannick Nézet-Séguin, who has led The Metropolitan Opera since 2018, to represent their brand as one of their ‘Testimonees.’

Rolex is broadening its involvement in the arts community, having recently entered into a three-year partnership with Film at Lincoln Center towards the end of January. The non-profit organization’s mission to honor cinema and foster upcoming filmmakers aligns perfectly with Rolex’s ongoing “Rolex and Cinema” programs.

Film at Lincoln Center, an organization that champions cinema and supports emerging film artists, has partnered with Rolex for a three-year period, starting in late January. This partnership complements the watchmaker’s existing “Rolex and Cinema” initiatives.

Elizabeth Gardner, vice president of partnerships and advertising for Film at Lincoln Center, expressed that Rolex is truly dedicated to the art of exceptional cinema, and they feel privileged to be part of this collaboration. As Rolex was searching for ways to further back filmmakers and the cinematic world, Film at Lincoln Center fit perfectly with their objectives. Both brands share a common goal of promoting international filmmakers worldwide.

The collaboration between Rolex and Film at Lincoln Center unofficially began when Rolex sponsored an event during the 2024 New York Film Festival. This included a private dinner, a movie screening of “Caught by the Tides” at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center, and a Q&A session with renowned director Jia Zhang-Ke. In 2025, Rolex will sponsor the April 28 Chaplin Award Gala, which is Film at Lincoln Center’s primary annual fundraiser, and this year, it will honor director Pedro Almodóvar. Gardner stated, “Since it’s our 50th anniversary of the gala, it feels like a particularly special event to have Rolex involved.” Almodóvar has been a long-time friend of the organization, with many of his films having been presented by them over the years, including “The Room Next Door” in 2024. The Chaplin Award seemed like an appropriate honor for one of the world’s great filmmakers, and luckily, our schedules coincided.

At the commencement of the 63rd New York Film Festival on September 26th, Rolex will be presenting the opening-night movie. Gardner notes with pride that they are collaborating with Rolex, not just because it’s a renowned brand, but also due to its wide global influence. “We might have other joint projects throughout the year,” Gardner adds, “but for now, we are primarily concentrating on our two major events.” The New York Film Festival will continue until October 12th.

In the end, Gardner feels they couldn’t have chosen a more suitable partner for Film at Lincoln Center’s main projects. “Rolex is deeply invested in their partnerships,” she asserts. “I am optimistic that with shared vision, we can envision a long-term future for this collaboration.
