“Roundball Rock” Is Back: John Tesh Unveils New Version of Iconic NBA Theme Song

As a die-hard sports enthusiast and music connoisseur with decades of memories tied to the rhythmic pulse of “Roundball Rock,” I must say that this news has me jumping for joy! John Tesh’s shredded version of the iconic NBA theme song is like a time machine, transporting us back to the golden era of sports broadcasting.

There’s officially a new version of “Roundball Rock,” the iconic theme song for the NBA on NBC.

Musician John Tesh unveiled his reworked rendition, which he refers to as the “shredded version,” during an appearance on The Dan Le Batard Show on Thursday morning. This was done through a pre-recorded video broadcast. On this show, he presented the updated version of the song.

“After returning to the studio, I joined on the Hammond organ and had a guitarist named Andrew Synowiec with me, which was truly remarkable, along with my entire band as well,” Tesh explained. “I penned an additional segment for the end of Roundball Rock and then we recorded what’s famously known as the ‘shredded version.’ So brace yourselves, because this is the first time anyone outside the recording studio will be listening to it.”

Watch, er, listen:

As a longtime fan of John Tesh’s music and a dedicated basketball enthusiast, I am beyond excited for the world premiere of his latest creation, ROUNDBALL ROCK! Having grown up listening to John’s captivating compositions and playing hoops on countless playgrounds, I can’t help but feel a deep connection to this unique fusion of music and sports.

Tesh initially hinted at a possible resurrection of “Roundball Rock” as early as May during his appearance on Le Batard’s show, when it was apparent that NBC Sports were likely to secure the NBA rights once more. He mentioned he had an orchestra ready and planned to travel to Nashville to record a fresh rendition of the song.

Last month, NBC officially reacquired the broadcasting rights for the NBA, signing a ten-year contract worth approximately $2.5 billion annually. Alongside this announcement, they also revealed their partnership with Tesh to revive the iconic theme song that was featured in NBC’s basketball coverage from 1990 to 2002.

In simpler terms, partnerships between the NBA, NBC, Disney, and Amazon are set to revolutionize television, resulting in an increase of sports content on traditional broadcasting platforms. This transformation may lead to a decrease in entertainment programming. However, one positive aspect is that there will be plenty of enjoyable music during this transition.
