Roy Wood Jr. Pokes Fun at Modern Life in ‘Lonely Flowers’ Trailer: “We Ain’t Going to Make It”

As a gaming enthusiast here, I can’t help but chuckle at how Roy Wood Jr. tackles the shifting landscape of modern life – from dating to customer service – in his upcoming Hulu stand-up comedy special, “Lonely Flowers,” which drops on January 17th. Can’t wait!

Yet, someone was being disrespectful towards an individual who had come there to hone their shooting skills, as if they were practicing something sinister.” Wood Jr. expressed this in the clip released on Tuesday.

At a certain moment, he asserted, “It seems we won’t be able to reach our destination.” This sentiment was echoed by the former Daily Show correspondent, who is currently hosting CNN’s Have I Got News for You, as he satirically commented on the diminishing human interaction in modern digital culture. “The only instance you encounter a store employee is when you mess up self-checkout: ‘What on earth did you do to this machine? Get out of here, quick!'” he quipped humorously.

During one part of the conversation, he stated, “It looks like we’re not going to make it.” This idea was reinforced by the former Daily Show correspondent, who now hosts CNN’s Have I Got News for You, through his humorous critique of the lack of human interaction in today’s digital-centric society. “The only time you run into a store employee is when you mess up self-checkout: ‘What on earth did you do to this machine? Get out of here, quickly!'” he joked playfully.

Recently, his fourth comedy special was recorded at the Lincoln Theatre in Washington D.C. during September. The latest special by Wood Jr., titled “Imperfect Messenger,” is currently streaming on Paramount+. Notably, this upcoming Hulu special marks an increased focus by the streaming service on monthly stand-up specials under their branding “Hulu’s Laughing Now.

For a period of eight years, Wood Jr. served as a correspondent for The Daily Show. In the year 2023, he took on the role of guest host for this Comedy Central program. Furthermore, in the year 2017, he was the headliner at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
