As a huge fan of Roy Wood Jr., I’m thrilled to pieces about his upcoming stand-up comedy special on Hulu! With his unique style and sharp wit, Roy never fails to leave me in stitches. His impressive resume speaks for itself – eight years as a correspondent on The Daily Show, guest-hosting the Comedy Central show, headlining the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, and appearances in shows like Only Murders in the Building, Better Call Saul, and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. Not to mention his upcoming role alongside Keanu Reeves and Jonah Hill in Outcome!
Roy Wood Jr.‘s next stand-up comedy special is headed to Hulu.
Hulu and Disney+, both owned by Disney, announced that Wood’s upcoming fourth stand-up special will be recorded at the Lincoln Theatre in Washington D.C. in September. This comedy special is set to premiere on these streaming platforms internationally. Previously, his third special, titled “Imperfect Messenger,” was available on Paramount+.
As an avid fan, I’m thrilled to see that my favorite comedian is making an appearance on Hulu. And guess what? Hulu is really going all in with monthly stand-up specials, branded as “Hulu’s Laughing Now.” That’s not all! They’re also expanding their library, adding classic stand-up performances and fresh specials from top production companies like 800 Pound Gorilla and Comedy Dynamics. So, get ready for some side-splitting comedy content, Hulu subscribers!
Jim Gaffigan will be the main act for the debut special, which is set to air on November 22nd. Bill Burr is also slated to release his next comedy special on Hulu following previous specials that were available on Netflix. The Wood special will be produced by Mainstay Entertainment and Jax Media, while Craig Patterson will be in charge of directing it.
Wood worked as a correspondent for The Daily Show for eight consecutive years. In 2023, he took over as guest host on Comedy Central’s program. He also had the honor of hosting the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in 2017. Moving forward, Wood is set to star alongside Keanu Reeves and Jonah Hill in the upcoming comedy movie named Outcome.
He has also worked on projects such as the new version of “Fletch” produced by Paramount Pictures, titled “Confess, Fletch.” Additionally, he made guest appearances in “Only Murders in the Building,” “Better Call Saul,” and “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.”
A date and title for Wood’s set will be announced at a later date.
As a devoted fan, I have to admit that Hulu has entered the world of stand-up comedy a bit later than its competitors. Netflix has been graced with some major specials from comedians like Burr, Chris Rock, Hannah Gadsby, John Mulaney, and Joe Rogan, to name a few. Amazon’s Prime Video is also making its mark in this field, offering both original productions and an extensive collection of HBO sets.
