Russo Brothers Tease “Very Radical” New ‘Avengers’ Films: “Going to Challenge Audiences”

On Monday evening, during the debut of their latest production titled “The Electric State“, directors Joe and Anthony Russo dropped some clues about their upcoming projects for the next couple of years. These include none other than “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars“.

Following their successful direction of “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame”, the Russo Brothers are set to rejoin the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the upcoming two productions. The initial project will feature Robert Downey Jr. portraying Doctor Doom, while new cast members are being sought for the franchise. According to Joe Russo during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, “We’re always on the lookout for fresh faces as there are always new stories to be told. These movies are going to catch people off guard — we’ve devised a unique approach into the story that excites us tremendously but also pushes boundaries, and I believe it will challenge audiences.

Currently, the Russos are working on “The Electric State,” a story that centers around a teenage orphan (portrayed by Millie Bobby Brown), who embarks on a journey across the American West in pursuit of her brother. Accompanying her are a peculiar robot and an unconventional wanderer, played by Chris Pratt.

According to the novel by Simon Stålenhag, Joe mentioned that the storyline delves deeply into the topic of technology. He believes it’s crucial to remain compassionate and maintain personal connections rather than becoming overly reliant on technology. Anthony added that while they don’t have concrete plans for a sequel at this moment, they envision a franchise that could include a game and potentially a series. Joe expressed his desire to further explore the world depicted in the story.

As a fan eagerly anticipating a potential appearance in the MCU, I’ve always kept an open mind, saying “I never turn down an opportunity until I read the script.” Reminiscing about my visit to the Russos during the filming of Avengers: Endgame, it was an unforgettable experience. The moment struck me, “Wow, I really want to be directed by them, I really want to collaborate with them.” That moment sparked a desire in me for future collaboration, pondering, “What can we achieve together? How can we make our partnership work?

On March 14th, the film titled The Electric State, starring the talented actors Stanley Tucci, Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander, and Giancarlo Esposito, will be available for streaming on Netflix.
