In simpler terms, the Marvel Universe keeps growing, as new projects hit both theaters and Disney+ streaming service. Over the years, fans who have watched the Marvel films in sequence have their preferred franchises, with Black Panther standing out as one of the top favorites. Recently, director Ryan Coogler shared some thoughts on Chadwick Boseman’s legacy and disclosed which cast member from Black Panther was most impacted by the actor’s passing.
As a devoted movie enthusiast, I was deeply saddened when Chadwick Boseman passed away in 2020. His untimely demise left his admirers and colleagues equally stunned. Ryan Coogler, the renowned director of Black Panther, felt such a profound loss that he revised Wakanda Forever to pay tribute to Boseman. During an interview on The Breakfast Club, Coogler disclosed which cast member from Black Panther grappled most with Boseman’s passing. He divulged:
Out of all of my actors, Chad’s death actually hit Mike (Jordan) the hardest.
Although many members of the Black Panther cast have openly grieved Boseman, as evidenced by Lupita Nyong’o’s heartfelt tribute, Coogler shares that his collaborator on Creed was deeply affected by Boseman’s unexpected passing. It appears they developed a deep connection while portraying T’Challa and Killmonger in the 2018 film.
Disney+ offers you the exclusive streaming of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including all titles like Black Panther, starting at just $9.99 per month with an ad-supported plan. If you prefer an ad-free experience, you can opt for $15.99 a month. Alternatively, save 16% by pre-paying $159.99 annually. Check out the deal here!
During the very same discussion, Ryan Coogler highlighted the unique qualities that distinguished Chadwick Boseman from himself and Michael B. Jordan. He put it this way:
Chad appeared to be around our age, but in reality, he was significantly older than us. He carried an air of maturity associated with Southern gentlemen, making him seem more like a seasoned adult compared to us, who were essentially youngsters when we worked together alongside Mike.
Boseman was adored by everyone who knew him and also by young fans of the MCU who viewed him as a true-life hero. It’s still sad that he won’t be in future Marvel films, but his impact lives on within the shared universe. Coogler spoke about what it was like collaborating with the actor from “Marshall,” sharing:
He was a teacher who made learning seem effortless, as if we weren’t even aware we were being taught. He demonstrated more than he lectured, showing us and Michael immense patience. He worked at a leisurely yet methodical pace, always arriving ahead of schedule. In essence, he was that cool, unflappable guy. And let me tell you, Mike can vouch for this – I’d often ask him, “What would Chad do in this situation? If he were in this role, what would he do?” Because Chad always stayed focused and never faltered in his actions.
Even though many years have gone by since his death, it seems that both admirers and peers continue to mourn the legacy that Chadwick Boseman created. This is why there’s ongoing discussion among fans about whether T’Challa should be played by another actor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In the lineup of upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe films, “Thunderbolts” is scheduled to be released on May 2nd, 2025. For now, we’re keeping our fingers crossed for updates regarding the future of “Black Panther”.
