As a seasoned gamer with decades of comic book-inspired video games under my belt, I must say that the recent cinematic journey through the Marvel universe has been nothing short of exhilarating. The latest addition to this grand saga, Deadpool & Wolverine, has undeniably left an indelible mark on the silver screen.
In simple terms, the Marvel Universe on screen keeps growing, with both theater releases and those exclusive to Disney+ streaming service. The newest addition is “Deadpool & Wolverine“, a blockbuster that’s been smashing box office records. People have been talking about it a lot due to the exciting cast list for “Deadpool 3“, which featured some unexpected guest appearances. Recently, Ryan Reynolds shared why none of the actors from the 2015 Fantastic Four reboot, like Michael B. Jordan, were part of it.
In numerous aspects, Shawn Levy’s third installment seemed like a farewell to 20th Century Fox, as evidenced by the end credits scene of Deadpool and Wolverine, which paid homage to the various superhero films produced under the defunct studio. Remarkably, this tribute incorporated scenes from the unsuccessful 2015 Fantastic Four movie, although none of the actors were present throughout the entire film. During an interview with Collider about the highly-praised blockbuster, Reynolds explained how the budget of the R-rated film influenced their decision to bring back actors, suggesting:
As a fan myself, let me tell you, incorporating Chris Evans into our project was indeed a significant part of it. The allure of his performance combined with the freedom he brings post-“License to Thrill,” makes him an invaluable asset. We were mindful of the budget constraints while striving to create a quality movie. After all, we’re not working with a blank check; we have a responsibility to our investors to ensure their investment is well spent. Adding more characters or requesting expensive props could potentially lead us into a situation where we can’t deliver on our promises, and that’s something I always aim to avoid.
In essence, even though Deadpool 3 featured numerous notable appearances, Levy, Reynolds, and their team had to be selective about who they included due to the complex financial and legal aspects involved with each actor’s return. Unfortunately, this meant that Michael B. Jordan, Miles Teller, and the entire Fantastic Four crew were not part of the film. I apologize for any disappointment this may cause.
Reynolds’ comments help to peel back the curtain on what it was like to produce Deadpool & Wolverine. The movie featured outstanding cameos, such as Channing Tatum’s Gambit, Dafne Keen’s X-23, Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, and Wesley Snipes’ Blade. And while no one from the 2015 Fantastic Four was there, Chris Evans shocked audiences by playing Johnny Storm/Human Torch… one with quite the potty mouth.
Absolutely, a fresh lineup of actors is joining forces for the upcoming Marvel film titled “First Steps,” which features the Fantastic Four. This talented group promises an exciting portrayal, as fans eagerly await the debut of this iconic superhero squad within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
