Ryan Reynolds Releases Deadpool & Wolverine Blooper Reel Featuring Dogpool

As a long-time admirer of the witty and irreverent world of Deadpool, I must say that watching Ryan Reynolds bring the character to life is nothing short of a delightful spectacle. The third installment of the franchise, Deadpool & Wolverine, truly encapsulates the anarchic spirit of the comics, with its seamless blending of heart-wrenching moments and side-splitting humor.

The following contains timeline breaking spoilers for Deadpool & Wolverine!

When viewing the movie featuring Deadpool and Wolverine, it’s challenging to conceive that any of the actors managed to get through a single scene without laughing on set. Ryan Reynolds, who plays Deadpool, has demonstrated that he can maintain his character with ease. The upcoming third Deadpool film marks the character’s debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and accurately portrays the humorous tone of a Deadpool comic book. Amidst moments of emotional turmoil and apocalyptic events, Reynolds’ Deadpool consistently finds humor at the expense of his co-star Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Marvel Studios’ president Kevin Feige, or himself. Throughout the movie, Deadpool is accompanied by various versions of himself, including the beloved Dogpool.

Contrary to what some fans may think, Dogpool is indeed a genuine canine. Peggy, who won the Ugliest Dog in Britain contest (judged by rather harsh individuals), was the one Reynolds decided to cast as Dogpool. Speaking with Empire, Reynolds expressed that the dog seemed to have an instant bond with Deadpool. He elaborated:

“I strongly supported her, as she seems to embody the spirit of Wade Wilson in an animal-like manner.”

Ryan Reynolds Never Thought Dogpool Would Happen on Screen

It’s evident, both in his acting and behind-the-scenes, that Ryan Reynolds has been an ardent admirer of the Deadpool comics, a creation of Rob Liefeld. Interestingly, Blake Lively ( portraying Lady Deadpool in the movie) revealed during their Green Lantern days, Reynolds was passionately discussing Deadpool with her and Taika Waititi. His affection for the character isn’t limited to Deadpool; it also encompasses the Dogpool version. Despite producing two hit Deadpool films, Reynolds initially found Dogpool too fantastical for cinematic adaptation.

In an interview on BBC Radio 1 before the premiere of Deadpool 2 in 2018, Reynolds was questioned about the possibility of Dogpool appearing in the next movie. At that point, Reynolds had no idea about his legendary character joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe or traversing various timelines with the Time Variance Authority. Reynolds responded by saying:

“Let’s consider expanding our universe, and Dogpool seems like an exciting addition! Maintaining an intimate, close-knit feel is important, but Dogpool could certainly bring some entertaining dynamics into the mix.”
