As a dedicated gamer and avid fan of both Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, I was thoroughly entertained by their appearance on Hot Ones. The behind-the-scenes stories they shared about the film industry and their experiences dealing with spoilers were fascinating.
In an episode of “Hot Ones,” Ryan Reynolds shared his early strategy for dealing with leaked information about their upcoming film, “Deadpool & Wolverine,” during his interview alongside co-star Hugh Jackman.
Sean Evans, the host, inquired of the actors about what sets a film leak apart from being beneficial or damaging. Surprised this go-round, Ryan Reynolds confessed that he was taken aback that major plot twists for their movie had remained undisclosed up to its release, even avoiding speculation on social media.
After that, he revealed the intricate strategy he came up with to keep the plot of the superhero film a surprise for fans – a plan so clandestine not even Jackman was aware of it. “Initially, we planned to produce a phony movie named ‘Alpha Cop‘,” he explained. “It was purposely made to be awful. I even created one of its posters – featuring two men who merged into one superior cop, and the tagline read, ‘Alpha Cop: Two Men, One Brain. All Brawn.'”
Reynolds described it as an intentional attempt to make the film seem unappealing so that around ten people in America would watch it during its opening weekend. About five minutes into the movie, the Marvel logo would unexpectedly appear, revealing it to be a surprise crossover featuring Deadpool and Wolverine.
“Whoa, that’s cool!,” remarked Jackson, in awe of what could have been.
Jackson recalled the challenging experience of a premature release for “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” in cinemas: “The movie was still rough around the edges when it got leaked about a week before its premiere. I heard estimates that as many as 10 million people had already seen it.” He aimed to prevent such an incident with his new film featuring the Marvel character.
The actors portraying Deadpool and Wolverine were fortunate that there weren’t any significant leaks, but they still had to endure the growing challenge of handling progressively spicy hot sauces – a feat that turned out to be their weaknesses.
In the heart of the episode, Black-Eyed Susan from Red Flag left Jackman drenched in sweat and on the verge of tears due to the scorching heat. Reynolds quipped, “Hugh’s never experienced real pain before; this is a significant milestone for him as a privileged actress.” Amused, Jackman blew his nose in response. As the temperature rose, Reynolds joined in, jokingly admitting, “I don’t even know if I’m sweating or peeing at this point.”
Despite their intolerance causing discomfort, there were occasional benefits – like being offered ice cream to help them feel better. Unfortunately, this solution didn’t work for Jackson, who mistakenly believed the dessert contained chilies, leading him to frantically scrape his tongue with a napkin in search of evidence.
