S.W.A.T. Boss Shared An Unexpected Street And Chris Update That I Really Hope Plays Out Before CBS Actually Cancels The Show For Real

As a die-hard fan of S.W.A.T., who has been following this gripping series since its inception, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing the news that Season 8 is on the horizon! The prospect of witnessing Chris Alonso and Jim Street’s long-awaited wedding has me practically jumping with anticipation.

Despite numerous shows being terminated or discontinued in 2024, S.W.A.T. miraculously escaped this fate thanks to a sudden renewal from CBS. Initially slated for conclusion after Season 7, the network granted it an extension following its initial cancellation in 2023. The seventh season neatly tied up certain storylines while still leaving room for more, particularly regarding Alex Russell’s character Jim Street and Lina Esco’s character Chris Alonso. Now, showrunner Andrew Dettman shares an exciting, hoped-for update on their relationship before the series faces a genuine cancellation.

Lina Esco departed from the series S.W.A.T. after the Season 5 finale, yet the show continued to explore the relationship between her character Street and Chris off-screen, providing updates on their living arrangements and plans to move in together. Actor Alex Russell also parted ways with the show during Season 7, hinting at a proposal to Chris before his departure. With Season 8 now underway, fans are eagerly anticipating an on-screen wedding for the couple. In a recent interview with TVLine, actor Andrew Dettman expressed his desire to include the ceremony in future episodes, making it even more intriguing for viewers like myself.

It’s quite clear that I’d be thrilled if we could organize a wedding. To us, Street and Chris remain deeply ingrained in the S.W.A.T. community.

As a passionate fan of S.W.A.T., I was thrilled when Hondo and Nichelle got hitched off-screen in Season 6, but I’m hoping for a different storyline for Street and Chris. When the showrunner hinted at another off-screen wedding, I couldn’t help but feel a bit disappointed, given that we waited five whole seasons for Stris to become an on-screen item. Frankly, I’d love to see them tie the knot on our screens someday! Just a heads up, I wouldn’t want their big day to happen too soon, or CBS might consider canceling the show again.

Given that S.W.A.T. seems to be staying put for the moment, there’s ample opportunity for beloved characters to reappear. With Season 8 boasting 22 episodes, the creators have a generous amount of time to weave in these character returns. Andrew Dettman has expressed his desire to explore Chris and Street’s relationship further, as well as to bring back Kenny Johnson’s character Luca, who left midway through Season 7 following a close brush with death.

1. [Street and Chris] remain a pair, continuing their joint adventures. There’s a hint they might tie the knot someday – we can only hope there will be a wedding in our future. The possibility exists for characters from the past to reappear, as both audience and creators would find that delightful. It could happen that Luca, Street, or Chris rejoin the storyline at some point. I’d be overjoyed if that occurred.

As a dedicated gamer, I’m thrilled to hear that Season 8 of S.W.A.T. is underway, with my favorite team, the 20-Squad, back on duty – although there are some fresh recruits added to the mix. It’s fantastic to know that past cast members might pop up again, hopefully tying up loose ends and giving us more insight into their characters. However, I can’t help but feel a sense of urgency since CBS could decide to end this long-running series after this season. If Chris and Street are planning on having their big wedding, it might be best for Andrew Dettman to act swiftly and finalize the plans before it’s too late!

As a die-hard fan, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming season 8 premiere of S.W.A.T., airing this Friday, October 18 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. Mark your calendars and get ready to tune in, because there’s a whole lot to look forward to in these brand-new episodes! I can hardly wait to see what thrilling adventures and heart-stopping action await us this season!
