Saif Ali Khan Attack: 1st visual of main accused OUT; granted 5-day police custody after being taken to court

On Sunday, January 19, 2025, Mumbai Police apprehended a suspect linked to the Saif Ali Khan case in Thane. The individual in question is Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, a Bangladeshi national. After his capture, he was escorted to court where the police requested and were granted a 5-day custody period for him.

Multiple images are circulating online, depicting the individual apprehended in connection with Saif Ali Khan’s stabbing case being escorted to court. In these images, the suspect appears flanked by a significant number of police officers as they transport him in a vehicle for his appearance before the judicial system.

Significantly, a black fabric concealed his face; however, his navy blue shirt and black trousers matched the description provided in the police’s early Sunday release of the suspected individual’s image.

A short while ago, ANI announced that the court in Mumbai’s Bandra Holiday Court has kept accused Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad in police custody for five days, as stated in their official tweet regarding the Saif Ali Khan Attack case.

On Sunday morning, it was verified by the Mumbai Police that Vijay Das, who had allegedly been apprehended, was indeed the accused. Reports suggest that he held a position as a waiter in a restaurant and admitted to having carried out the said crime.

Following the arrest, Dixit Gedam from Mumbai’s Zone 9, held a press briefing and revealed that the suspect in question is Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, aged 30 years old. As shared by Gedam, the individual allegedly intended to rob Saif’s residence. Furthermore, it was stated that the accused will be brought before the court, where authorities plan to request custody of him.

According to DCP, it was initially found that the suspect is originally from Bangladesh and had entered India illegally. He then changed his name to Vijay Das. About five to six months ago, this individual arrived in Mumbai. After spending a brief time in Mumbai, he resided near the city. The DCP continued by stating that the suspect was employed at a housekeeping agency during this period, and it was also revealed that he did not have any legitimate Indian documents.
