16th January saw Saif Ali Khan sustaining multiple stab wounds, apparently during a failed robbery attempt. He’s currently receiving treatment at Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai. Early Sunday morning, authorities apprehended the suspected culprit, Mohammed Shehzad, in Thane. A startling disclosure indicates that the perpetrator was a national wrestling champion, lending an unforeseen complexity to this developing story.
It came to light that Mohammed Shehzad, under suspicion for the stabbing of Saif Ali Khan, has an intriguing past as a national-level wrestler from Bangladesh. He is said to have illegally entered India and had lived in Mumbai for quite some time, using the alias Vijay Das to avoid detection.
Following the event, it’s said that he transitioned through Bandra, Dadar, Worli, Andheri, and finally settled near a labor camp in Thane, where he was captured on January 19th. During interrogation, he confessed to his background in wrestling in Bangladesh, leading the police to believe this may have provided him with the physical prowess to subdue the actor and others during the assault.
Investigators found out that Shehzad was linked to a different burglary incident several months prior, which took place when he was working in Worli. He allegedly stole a diamond ring during this time and was subsequently terminated. Afterward, he held a temporary job at a restaurant in Thane until December 2024.
In response, the defense attorney disputed allegations concerning his nationality, stating that he and his family have resided in Mumbai for more than seven years. This contradicts the suggestion that he is a recent immigrant from Bangladesh.
Previously, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar, mentioned that it seems the person who allegedly attacked Saif Ali Khan with a knife didn’t realize they had entered the Bollywood actor’s home.
On Thursday, at approximately 2:30 a.m., an incident took place at the Bandra West home of the actor, resulting in him receiving six stab wounds, some on his neck and shoulder.
Following an emergency admission at Lilavati Hospital, medical professionals performed a five-hour operation to extract a 2.5-inch shard from Saif’s spinal area. At present, he is progressing through his recovery process, while the authorities continue their investigation into the incident.
