This morning, police in Mumbai apprehended a suspect linked to the Saif Ali Khan stabbing case. It was disclosed that this individual, who works as a waiter at a restaurant, admitted to carrying out the attack. The most recent update indicates that the individual arrested in Durg has been freed, while this new suspect’s initial statement has come to light.
One of the around hundred police officers involved in the search of the suspect told The Indian Express that the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime by saying, “I was the one who did it.
On Sunday morning, the Mumbai police declared that initial evidence suggests that the attacker, Vijay Das, is actually a Bangladeshi national named Mohammad Shariful Islam Shahzad. They added that this individual employed several aliases such as Bijoy Das, Vijay Das, Mohammad Illyas, and BJ. However, upon entering India, he altered his name to Vijay Das in an attempt to conceal his nationality.
The report goes on to say that Islam is believed to have frequently switched his hideouts, skillfully evading CCTV surveillance, and sought refuge in Dadar and Worli districts. He was ultimately apprehended in Ghodbunder area of Thane, after a 70-hour manhunt, when he was concealed within thick mangrove forests.
The report indicates that the police stated Mohammad felt frightened as he believed someone was nearby, but ultimately was apprehended. Currently under police questioning at the Khar police station, it’s expected that he will be brought before the Bandra Metropolitan Court this coming Sunday afternoon.
Besides this development, it’s also reported that another individual, Akash Kanoji from Durg, who was initially suspected in Saif Ali Khan’s case, was being transported from the RPF Police Station in Durg for his release. In the police vehicle, when he spoke to ANI, he declared his innocence, asserting that he is not the accused and hasn’t committed any crime.
He stated that he had been taken there for an interrogation. “I assure you, I’m innocent. I was taken in for questioning, and now I’ve been freed. I am not the one being charged,” he explained.
The police spokesperson additionally made clear that Kanojia was considered a potential suspect rather than the primary defendant, and their team was diligently working on the case investigation.
