In January, Saif Ali Khan, a well-known Bollywood actor, experienced a distressing event at his residence in Bandra. An intruder invaded his home, and during an altercation aimed at stopping him, Khan was repeatedly stabbed. Immediately afterward, he was rushed to Lilavati hospital for emergency surgeries. The suspect, Shariful Fakir, had previously requested bail, but the police have now strongly opposed it, citing substantial evidence implicating him in the crime.
Based on an article by India Today, Mumbai Police have voiced objections to Shariful Fakir’s bail request, who is accused of attacking Saif Ali Khan. The police worry that Shehzad, an undocumented immigrant from Bangladesh, might leave the country if granted bail. They also cautioned about potential evidence tampering or witness influence, and highlighted the danger of him committing similar crimes again if freed, stressing on the risk factor.
The police also emphasized that a significant amount of proof has been gathered and a formal accusation will be made. They mentioned that a piece of a knife was taken from Saif’s spine during an operation, which corresponded with parts discovered at the crime scene during investigation and in Shehzad’s possession. This discovery confirmed that it was the same weapon involved in the stabbing incident, according to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Kalina. Additional chemical tests on these fragments supported this assertion.
According to the information provided by the portal, the police additionally disclosed that CCTV recordings depict the suspect, Shehzad, committing the act and then fleeing. Forensic facial recognition analysis was carried out, confirming his identity. Later on, he guided authorities to various locations where he obtained the weapons. Formal panchnamas were conducted at these locations. The police also reenacted the crime scene and collected digital evidence such as call records and tower location data from his phone.
Additionally, the confiscated phone contained evidence proving his Bangladeshi citizenship, and a comprehensive examination of the device is still underway. Stains believed to be blood from Saif Ali Khan, Hari (his attendant), and other staff members’ clothes have been submitted for chemical testing. The court has set the next hearing for April 9th.
Previously, Shariful Fakir requested bail as the investigation has ended, with all essential proof already gathered by the officials. Moreover, his legal representative contends that the arrest itself was unlawful.
