Saif Ali Khan Attack: Police to file chargesheet by end of March 2025; attacker remains in custody

By the end of March, the Bandra police are planning to present their chargesheet concerning the Saif Ali Khan stabbing case to the Magistrate Court in Bandra. As per legal procedure, this document should be submitted within 60 days following the incident. A police representative has mentioned that they have obtained numerous supportive testimonies and substantial proof. On January 16, the actor was assaulted and repeatedly stabbed at his residence in Bandra West by an intruder during a suspected burglary attempt.

Shariful Islam, a 30-year-old citizen of Bangladesh who carried out an attack, initially escaped but was later captured on the 19th of January. At present, he is detained under legal supervision and is housed in Arthur Road Jail.

Police sources confirm that the evidence found at the scene strongly supports the accusations against Saif Ali Khan. A forensic analysis of fingerprints discovered in the building where he lives has been confirmed to match those of the suspect.

After Shariful’s apprehension, a reenactment of the crime scene provided additional information. It appears that the suspect noticed one security guard was asleep, while another was stationed away from the building entrance. Taking advantage of this situation, it is said that Shariful sneaked into a nearby building and climbed over a shared wall.

Afterward, he crawled into a vent situated beside Satguru Sharan, ascending it to reach the fourth floor. Eventually, he appeared in the hallway leading to the stairs.

The accusation document contains over 25 statements, which include accounts from witnesses, crucial figures, and others. This group includes Saif Ali Khan’s staff members such as Eliyamma Philip, Junu, and four additional staff members.

The chargesheet encompasses more than 25 declarations, ranging from eyewitnesses to key personnel. Included among these are statements from Saif Ali Khan’s employees, specifically Eliyamma Philip, Junu, as well as four other team members.

Besides Khan’s own statements and those from his wife, actress Kareena Kapoor, the police have obtained statements from Shariful’s acquaintance and employer, Jitendra Pandey, as well. The accused has one known relative in India, his maternal uncle, whose statement has also been recorded.

As an ardent admirer putting this into my own words, here’s how I’d rephrase it: “In the course of my enthusiastic following, I’ve come across a fascinating detail from the case file. There’s a lady named Khukumoni Jahangir Sheikh hailing from West Bengal, whose phone was swiped by Shariful. What’s intriguing is that during the investigation, it was found out that Shariful had no idea that the house he robbed belonged to an actor; his sole intention was to steal my beloved’s phone.
