Saira Banu reflects on being part of Padosan as it re-releases in cinemas; recalls how Mehmood convinced her to resume acting post-marriage

As a dedicated follower of Bollywood history and a fan of timeless classics, I am absolutely thrilled to hear about the re-release of the iconic movie, Padosan. It brings back fond memories of an era when exceptional artists like Sunil Dutt, Kishore Kumar, and Saira Banu graced our screens with their talent.

Recently, Rajshri Productions shared news via social media about the comeback of the iconic film “Padosan,” initially produced by Mehmood. The nostalgic movie will be shown again in selected cinemas on September 13th. Today, the main actress of the production, Saina Banu, reminisced about her time working on the film with Sunil Dutt, Kishore Kumar, and others.

As a passionate admirer, I couldn’t contain my excitement when I learned that the timeless classic “Padosan” was set for a theater re-release. This film holds a special place in my heart and represents a significant piece of cinematic history that I believe deserves to be appreciated by the new generation. It showcases the extraordinary talents of Dutt Saab, Mehmood Bhai, Kishore Ji, and many other brilliant artists.

Towards the end of her heartfelt Instagram message, the veteran actress reminisced about the movie and shared how renowned producer Mehmood persuaded her to join the 1968 musical comedy film, despite her taking a brief hiatus from work.

Saira Banu shared her thoughts about “PADOSAN”, expressing gratitude for being involved in such a project under the given circumstances. Following her marriage, she had taken a break from her acting career, but it was only due to Mehmood’s constant encouragement and accommodating filming arrangements in Madras that she decided to participate. The film’s cast, including the legendary Dutt Saab who humorously commented on her departure from glamorous roles, and the exceptional Kishore Kumar, made the entire experience truly unforgettable. The camaraderie and laughter on set were so intense at times that filming had to be momentarily paused because she couldn’t stop laughing.

Reflecting on her heartwarming message, I can’t help but feel elated as “PADOSAN” is celebrated once more. I eagerly anticipate sharing more tales about this extraordinary film, a cherished milestone in my acting journey and an enduring piece of cinematic heritage that continues to bring joy.

Saira Banu, known for “Purab Aur Paschim”, has previously discussed this movie. Last year, when the movie celebrated its 55th anniversary, she shared a detailed post explaining how she came to be part of the Jyoti Swaroop directorial. She began by stating that the film is among her top favorites from her career. Saira Banu expressed her happiness for having agreed to do the film despite initially turning down work after her marriage with Dilip Kumar.

In a subsequent portion of the previous article, it’s mentioned that ‘Mehmood Bhai’ approached her husband for permission to let her work in this film. To this, Kumar stated it was entirely up to her. As Dilip Ji was engaged in the South at that time, the producer chose to shoot the movie in Madras, thus allowing the newlyweds to remain together. Finding this an added advantage, she decided to join the cast of this legendary film.

In the film, Saira Banu took on the female lead role alongside a highly skilled ensemble consisting of Sunil Dutt, Mehmood, Kishore Kumar, and Om Prakash. Notably, the music score created by R. D. Burman became a chart-topper.
