The 2007 romantic comedy “Partner,” featuring Salman Khan, Govinda, Katrina Kaif, and Lara Dutta, remains popular due to its humor and music. This movie made a significant impact at the box office, largely thanks to the bromance between Salman and Govinda. Recently, writer Alok Upadhyay shared behind-the-scenes stories about director David Dhawan managing the shoot of the famous song “Soni De Nakhre” involving both stars. Alok also disclosed that each of them demanded a fee of 15 crores for the film, and the choreographer’s emphasis on their legs caused some tension with the director during production.
In an interview with Lightscameramasti on YouTube, Alok commended David Dhawan for his exceptional filmmaking approach and ability to effectively manage stars. The author noted that while Dhawan is shooting films, he maintains a keen watch over everyone involved, has a clear vision of how the scene will be edited post-production, and plans his subsequent moves accordingly.
In his appreciation of the director’s understanding of commercial films, Alok shared an anecdote from the set of Soni De Nakhre. He explained that during production, David had pointed out to him that one actor was demanding Rs 10 crores and another was taking Rs 5 crores. Despite spending Rs 15 crores, the focus was on displaying the actors’ legs, which he found pointless. Frustrated, David instructed the choreographer to shift from long shots to close-ups of the actors instead of overemphasizing the decoration, as it would not suit the movie.
According to Upadhyay, Dhawan instructed to capture a detailed shot of the two actors, who were each paid 15 crore, as they acted freely per the filmmaker’s plan. And that’s how things unfolded!
Currently, director David Dhawan is working on his upcoming film titled “Hai Jawani To Ishq Hona Hai”. This movie stars Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde, and Mrunal Thakur in the main roles. It’s slated to hit theaters on October 2, 2025.
