In whatever direction girlhood leads, designer Sandy Liang is always in tow. Her latest seasonal showcase, labeled as a “childhood dream brought to life,” reflects a sentimental reflection on the evolution of the Sandy Liang woman. By blending a wide array of colors, textures, patterns, and prints, she seeks to portray the intriguing bond between creativity and disorder that lies at the heart of growing up.
The opening scene expresses the delight of possessing a stylish pink planner with a lock, even when there’s no need to use it – the joy simply stems from the possibility of keeping secrets. This scenario beautifully reflects the genuine experience of growing up as a girl. Interestingly, Liang drew design inspiration directly from her teenage memorabilia to craft the garments. Notably, Look 7 represents what Liang refers to as her “mature princess dress.
As a gamer, I find myself surrounded by valuable items, but their worth is purely subjective to me. For instance, my childhood princess dresses, meticulously recreated in life-size, hold a special significance that transcends monetary value. Similarly, the scribbles from my day planners, transformed into graphics and adorning various garments, carry an emotional resonance that cannot be quantified by mere numbers.
She openly expresses her dreams through a calendar-themed skirt and her busy schedule through a shirt adorned with pencil cases, makeup, and jewelry. Her wardrobe mirrors the blend of serious ambition and whimsical spirit within her – a collection of stunning yet unexpected items, stacked upon each other.
Over long johns, skirts are stacked, polka dots match with florals, ties go underneath quarter-zips. Liang also enhances her line of outerwear, using vibrant hues of neon yellow and pink to color nylon zip-up styles. Playful dresses and skirts get a boost with mini dresses and skirts stitched at the front (very Polly Pocket style), while more formal suits and tailored dresses preserve the collection’s essence through attached ribbon details.
In the design choices for Fall/Winter 2025, Sandy Liang draws inspiration from her cherished childhood memories, as evidenced by the appearance of ToysRUs, The Snowman, and The Parent Trap in various parts of the collection. Pearls are a popular choice, symbolizing the maturing girl’s longing to mature and appear more grown-up. This line exudes individuality, understated elegance, and a touch of enchanting whimsy, mirroring the journey of the Sandy Liang woman wherever her life may lead.
