As a seasoned gamer of the fashion world, this news about Sarah Burton taking over as Givenchy’s new creative director feels like a level-up in my virtual wardrobe! After spending her entire career at Alexander McQueen and leaving a lasting impact with her final collection for Spring 2024, I can’t wait to see what she brings to the table at Givenchy.
As a devoted admirer, I couldn’t be more thrilled to announce that I, myself, have been chosen as the new Creative Director for Givenchy, under the esteemed ownership of LVMH! The prestigious French house has placed their trust in me, a British designer, as their eighth design visionary. What an incredible honor!
As a devotee, I’ve admired Sarah Burton’s incredible talent for years at Alexander McQueen. Now, it’s exciting to know she’s set to step into Givenchy as their second female couturier, following an illustrious career with McQueen. According to WWD, this week, I’ll get the chance to meet her at Givenchy’s ateliers on Avenue George V, and in March 2025, during Paris Fashion Week, she’ll unveil her first collection for Givenchy. Sidney Toledano, Givenchy’s board chairman, expressed his enthusiasm: “Sarah Burton is a remarkable creative spirit whose work I’ve long admired. I am thrilled that she’s joining us at Givenchy today. Her innovative vision and approach to fashion will be a tremendous asset to this iconic house, renowned for its daringness and haute couture. I believe her creative leadership will contribute significantly to the future success and global reputation of our esteemed maison.
In his statement after the announcement, Burton expressed his delight at becoming a part of the esteemed Givenchy family, referring to it as a precious gem. He’s thrilled about penning the next chapter in this iconic house’s history and sharing his unique perspective and values with Givenchy. Starting next March, he will design both women’s and men’s collections for the brand, following in the footsteps of the late Lee Alexander McQueen, who is revered as one of the most creative designers of this era. His last collection under Alexander McQueen was shown during the Spring 2024 season in October 2023, marking his departure from the London-based Kering house.
With an impressive portfolio, she transfers her abilities and ambitions to Givenchy, furthering her exceptional journey in fashion. At Givenchy’s esteemed establishment, she assumes the role previously held by Matthew M. Williams. The venerable French brand has been home to numerous accomplished designers, such as John Galliano who succeeded Hubert de Givenchy and later Riccardo Tisci, a highly acclaimed designer who helmed the creative direction for 12 years and is considered one of the most successful figures to have led the house.
