Actress Sarah Michelle Gellar, a veteran of the franchise, expresses enthusiasm about potentially reviving her character and participating once more, as she speculates about the possibility of her character coming back to life in the upcoming sequel of the slasher film series, which is almost 30 years since its initial release and the reappearance of other characters from beyond the grave.
In conversation, Sarah Michelle Gellar expressed enthusiasm about the possibility of her character, Katharine Jules, making an appearance in Scream 7 or a subsequent installment, despite being among Ghostface’s numerous victims within the series. However, despite her eagerness, she never received a call from creator Kevin Williamson or the production team regarding a return. “I tried to join Scream – they didn’t want me, ” Gellar stated. “They were bringing everyone back, I kept hoping for a call. I didn’t get a call.
Neve Campbell, who played Cici in Scream 2, had a short stint as the “scream queen” due to her character’s early demise in the successful sequel. The talented actress expressed that Scream 7 would have been an ideal opportunity to revive Cici, considering the return of characters like Dewey Riley and Stu Macher, who also met their ends early in the original Scream films. Speaking about her potential comeback, Campbell commented, “A lot of characters who died in all the Scream movies are back. Skeet [Ulrich], [Matthew] Lillard – I’m just saying I’m expecting a call.
Scream 7 Features Some Old Faces and a New Direction
Under the guidance of franchise founder Kevin Williamson, the upcoming film titled “Scream 7” is scheduled for release, following a series of changes in creative direction as a result of the exit of directors Radio Silence (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett), along with some cast members. Notably absent from the cast due to salary disputes is Neve Campbell’s character from “Scream VI“. However, Sidney Prescott, her family, and even some deceased characters are expected to return for this new installment.
Filming for Scream 7 concluded in March following its initiation in January. Original cast member Courtney Cox will once more portray Gale Weathers, while Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding reprise their roles as Mindy Meeks-Martin and Chad Meeks-Martin from the 2022’s Scream and Scream VI. Roger L. Jackson returns to lend his voice to Ghostface, a role he has been embodying since the initial Scream film.
Additionally, Gellar is recognized for her role in another well-loved horror film titled “I Know What You Did Last Summer” written by Williamson. Interestingly, there were whispers about the character Helen Shivers reappearing in the sequel, released 28 years after the initial film, even though she was supposedly killed in the first part. However, it was disclosed by the new director, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, that despite her persistent efforts to persuade Gellar to join the cast, it didn’t work out.
The seventh installment of “Scream” is set to hit theaters on February 17, 2026. For those eager to catch David Arquette earlier, his appearance in “Scream 2” can be enjoyed by streaming the legacy sequel conveniently through Paramount+.
