As a fan, I am absolutely thrilled to see Sasheer Zamata stepping into the spotlight and embracing her identity as a late-in-life lesbian! Her journey is a testament to self-discovery and confidence, and it’s inspiring to witness such a talented individual living authentically.
Sasheer Zamata is “one of those late-in-life lesbians.”
The former star of Saturday Night Live, who is soon to be seen in the highly anticipated Disney+ series Agatha All Along alongside Kathryn Hahn, recently revealed in an interview with Them magazine that they identify as part of the LGBTQ community.
In a recent interview in Pasadena, author Amos Mac shared that while they prefer to maintain some privacy regarding their personal life, they don’t wish to remain completely anonymous. They described themselves as a woman who identifies as a lesbian later in life, feeling very content and self-assured about their existence.
Actress Zamata, known for her roles in shows such as “Woke”, “Home Economics”, “Tuca & Bertie” and “Waco: The Aftermath”, shared her thoughts on how she was frequently cast as a lesbian character before acknowledging her own sexuality. She stated, “I found myself playing queer women in productions like ‘Home Economics’, ‘Woke’ and ‘Tuca & Bertie’. I even played a lesbian on ‘Last O.G.’. This happened before I was discovering my own identity. I would wonder, ‘What is it that these directors see that I don’t?’
38-year-old talent stated her reasons for speaking up now: “Nobody inquires about the journey of a straight person, yet I felt that if I remained silent, I would be neglecting a part of myself, which doesn’t feel right. To some extent, I had considered not disclosing it, but rather than keeping it secret, I didn’t see any necessity to speak about it.
In the extensive interview, Zamata shares her thoughts on her career and contemporary culture, including the recent news surrounding pop icon Chappell Roan. When asked what people should know, she replied, “Nothing. They don’t deserve anything. I consider myself fortunate so far. I have fans who respect my privacy, and I hope this continues. And I hope artists like Chappell Roan, who set firm boundaries, continue to do so.
