Fans of the Saw franchise have been anxiously awaiting news on
since it was suggested the franchise could be in trouble last month, and now it looks like it may well be game over for the gory franchise. According to a new report from Bloody Disgusting, Saw XI is completely “100% dead.”
The source, who is closely associated with the production, claims that the production has faced difficulties over an extended period. However, as of the present moment, they have declared:
“It’s totally dead. It’s 100% over. Almost a year now.”
The newest sequel in the long-running horror franchise that became part of the “torture-porn” era of horror movies, was originally announced with a 2024 release date following the success of Saw X in 2023. However, the production was first pushed back to a new release date of September 26, 2025. Since then, little has been heard about the production until last month.
In February, it was claimed that the latest movie in the franchise was in trouble, with reports suggesting that Tobin Bell’s age was causing problems for the production, and his role in the movie as John Kramer was in doubt. At the time, it was said:
“We’re also hearing that the advancing age of series star Tobin Bell is also a concern. Bell, who has played John Kramer in 9 of the 10 Saw installments, recently turned 81. We’re hearing that concerns have been raised that Bell is no longer up to the physical demands of carrying a Saw picture, having faced serious difficulties during the previous film.”
Has ‘Saw XI’ Been Canceled?
Despite those reports of Tobin Bell’s ability to carry another Saw movie being a concern, the new report suggests that the actual reason for Saw XI’s collapse came down to infighting between producers. The source is quoted as saying, “Everything went sideways in January 2024 … the producers started fighting.” They go on to note that one producer wanted to push the movie through quickly, while others “put up roadblocks.”
Despite hints that another film in the series might be produced by a different group, it would essentially mean starting from scratch with an entirely new creative team. Ultimately, it appears that the Saw franchise, after decades of inventing complex and grisly traps, found itself trapped by “greed and ambition.
Saw X received incredibly strong reviews from both critics and audiences, standing at a “certified fresh” 81% on Rotten Tomatoes, becoming by far the most critically acclaimed installment in the franchise. Tobin Bell’s return and performance as John Kramer was widely praised as the key ingredient to the franchise being revived after several disappointing entries, with the prequel/sequel grossing a worldwide total of $125 million. Another movie was always likely, but it seems that, for now, we may have seen the last of Jigsaw on the big screen. Game over, indeed.
