‘Scandal’ Cast to Reunite for Kamala Harris Reproductive Freedom Bus Tour (Exclusive)

As a gamer who’s spent countless hours immersed in the political drama of Washington D.C., I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and pride seeing the cast of Scandal reunite for a cause as important as reproductive freedom. Having grown up watching Olivia Pope navigate the treacherous waters of politics on my screen, it’s inspiring to see these characters, now real-life activists, using their influence to fight for what they believe in.

The Gladiators are back.

This weekend, the stars from the TV show “Scandal” are coming together in Michigan to join the Harris-Walz campaign’s “Bus Tour for Protecting Reproductive Rights.

Actors Kerry Washington, Tony Goldwyn, Guillermo Díaz, Bellamy Young, Katie Lowes, Dan Bucatinsky, Scott Foley, Portia de Rossi, and George Newbern will join numerous advocates and helpers on Sunday for Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz at a canvass kickoff event in Madison Heights. This is the initial stop of their Michigan tour bus, which aims to traverse the state and clarify the significance of reproductive rights in the 2024 election.

The Democratic presidential candidate’s campaign asserts that each event will highlight the significant differences between Vice President Harris and Governor Walz, who aim to reinstate the safeguards of Roe v. Wade once a bill is passed in Congress, and Donald Trump and JD Vance, who plan to implement their potentially harmful Project 2025 policy to outlaw abortions across the nation, limit birth control access, require states to report on miscarriages and abortions, and jeopardize In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) procedures.

The bus tour, launched on September 3 in Palm Beach, Florida, has since made at least 50 stops in significant states such as Michigan. Cities visited within this state include both democratic (blue) and republican (red) communities like Madison Heights, Flint, Ann Arbor, Lansing, Grand Rapids, and Marquette.

In the latest presidential debate, the topics of reproductive rights, including access to abortion services and In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF), were given significant attention. Kamala Harris emphasized her commitment to restoring reproductive freedom across the nation, while Donald Trump declined to confirm whether he would veto a potential national ban on abortion if reelected.

The reunion of the cast from “Scandal” took place after actors and activists Washington and Goldwyn crossed paths at the Democratic National Convention. At this event, they were among the evening’s lineup of Hollywood hosts, and their onstage appearance together was a pleasant surprise. Goldwyn opened the first night, while Washington hosted the final night when Harris accepted the party’s nomination for the 2024 presidential campaign.

In the popular ABC TV show “Scandal,” created by Shonda Rhimes, the characters portrayed by Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn, namely Olivia Pope and President Fitzgerald Grant respectively, frequently shared screen time. Over a span of seven seasons, this political drama captivated audiences. One pivotal episode from 2015 was particularly groundbreaking; it tackled the sensitive topic of abortion in a way that significantly altered the portrayal of this issue on broadcast TV. The storyline centered around legislation aiming to defund Planned Parenthood, and Olivia’s (Kerry Washington) character underwent an abortion, a pregnancy that was likely due to Fitz (Tony Goldwyn), the Republican U.S. President in the show.

It appears that the portrayal of abortion as a choice for liberated women hadn’t been shown before,” Young shared in an interview with THR, discussing the struggle they faced with ABC over this storyline.

Washington, who previously oversaw an event during the 2020 Democratic National Committee (DNC) that occurred on Zoom, has discussed her role in the 2024 election with THR. She stated, “This isn’t simply about candidates and electoral cycles. It’s about creating a future where everyone recognizes their influence and their voice within our democracy.
