School Is Back in Session: Netflix Drops First-Look Images, Announces Release Date of ‘XO, Kitty’ Season 2

As a dedicated fan who has followed the Song Covey family’s adventures from the very beginning, I couldn’t be more thrilled to see Kitty back in Seoul for another round of love, laughter, and lessons! The cliffhanger at the end of season one left me on tenterhooks, and I can hardly wait to find out who our beloved Kitty will choose – if anyone at all!

Kitty Song Covey along with her group have returned to Seoul for another academic semester. The second season of the popular Netflix dramedy, “XO, Kitty“, has unveiled its initial images, and the series will be available soon as announced on Thursday morning by Netflix.

The romantic comedy-drama series, a spinoff from Netflix’s “To All the Boys” trilogy, centers around Kitty Song Covey, played by Anna Cathcart, as she navigates her teenage life filled with love and friendships while studying at the Korean Independent School of Seoul, commonly known as KISS. In simpler terms, it tells the story of Kitty’s high school adventures in a school located in Seoul, South Korea, where she experiences romance and friendship.

In the first season of XO, Kitty, the story concluded with a kind of romantic quadrangle arising when Kitty split up with her boyfriend Dae (played by Minyeong Choi), due to her growing affections towards her former rival-turned-friend Yuri (Gia Kim). However, before Kitty could express her feelings to Yuri, Yuri’s ex Julianna (Regan Aliyah) came back into the picture. To make matters more complicated, Kitty’s previous adversary and unwilling housemate Min Ho (Sang Heon Lee) admitted his feelings for her as well.

The main character, Kitty Song Covey, is set for a season filled with learning experiences in both familiar, platonic, and romantic relationships. After a long period of being single, she’s eager to start anew without complications or turmoil at the Korean International School of Seoul (KISS). The synopsis hints at potential casual dating, but her primary focus is on personal growth. However, she has other concerns beyond romance, as a letter from her mother’s past propels her on an unexpected adventure and fresh faces at KISS bring about change.

On Thursday, Netflix shared a video that mirrors a popular TikTok trend, revealing their show will debut its second season on January 16, 2025. A voice can be heard shouting, “Kitty is returning!” in the clip, causing Cathcart to turn towards the camera and ask, “When?”.

In a mere four weeks following its impressive debut, where it garnered a staggering 72 million watch-hours globally within the first week (as per Netflix’s own data), XO, Kitty was granted a renewal for a second season.

The series “To All the Boys” was originally created by its author, Jenny Han. In the second season of “XO, Kitty”, Jessica O’Toole is both the showrunner and writer. They are joined by executive producers, including Matt Kaplan from ACE Entertainment, in producing the show which hails from Awesomeness Studios.
