Patrick Schwarzenegger, who stars in Season 3 of The White Lotus, doesn’t align with the negative comments about him being a nepotism case. Despite being the son of famous actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Patrick expresses that at times he wishes he didn’t share his last name. He dismisses such claims, stating that it can be annoying and limiting as one can easily be stereotyped.
In an interview with The Sunday Times, Schwarzenegger discussed his character in HBO’s series, which revolves around a resort where the wealthy often encounter misfortune. In the show, Schwarzenegger portrays Saxon Ratliff, a man on vacation with his family who tries to make a good impression on the women he meets and offers dubious guidance to his younger brother. Known as The White Lotus, this role represents one of Schwarzenegger’s most significant to date, but he takes issue with those who suggest that he secured the part due to family connections rather than his acting skills…
It’s possible for some individuals to claim that I landed this role due to my family connections. However, they might not be fully aware of the decade-long acting classes I’ve taken, the weekly school plays I’ve performed in, the countless hours I’ve spent developing characters, or the numerous auditions I’ve faced and didn’t make the cut.
Surely, it can be infuriating when you feel trapped and in those moments, you might think, ‘If only I didn’t share this last name.’ However, such feelings are fleeting. I wouldn’t swap my life with anyone else’s. I am incredibly blessed to lead the life I do, to have the family I have – my loving parents who have passed on valuable lessons and principles to me.
The Schwarzenegger Name Helps, But Patrick Is Proving His Worth
Following several installments of The White Lotus Season 3, Saxon Ratliff, portrayed by Schwarzenegger, has emerged as one of the most intriguing characters this season. He is a testosterone-fueled wealthy white male whose entitlement knows no bounds, with his primary grievance being that his hotel room lacks a mixer for his protein drinks. Saxon represents a collection of traditional male stereotypes, making them seem more plausible and amusing thanks to Schwarzenegger’s exceptional acting skills.
It’s clear that this isn’t his debut performance, as the talented actor has been in the industry for quite some time now. Just like other actors, Schwarzenegger began his journey with independent films. His exceptional portrayal in the psychological horror movie “Daniel Isn’t Real” stands out among his works. Interestingly, it’s television that has provided him with more significant roles, such as those in “The Staircase,” “The Boys” spin-off “Gen V,” and “The Terminal List.
It’s tough to argue against the fact that his last name is well-known in cinema circles, but does that automatically guarantee him the roles he tries out for? The debate over nepotism in Hollywood is heated, and there’s no denying an uneven distribution of opportunities. Still, building a career solely on a surname is not always feasible. In time, everyone has to demonstrate their skills, and Schwarzenegger has shown his talent through his movies and TV appearances.
