In recent times, Earth finds itself surrounded by mysterious beings like grey aliens and adaptable mantids, making the world of “Resident Alien” rather bustling. Yet, there’s always space for a newcomer, particularly when their intentions toward humanity seem benevolent. To this end, renowned science fiction actor Jewel Staite has formally become part of the cast of “Resident Alien”, set to appear in the upcoming fourth season, which is currently being produced.
Resident Alien: The situation so far
The space-faring sci-fi drama “Resident Alien” is adapted from the comic book of the same title written by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse. The story revolves around Harry Vanderspeigle, an alien disguised as a human (portrayed by Alan Tudyk), who has come to Earth with the intention of eliminating humanity.
After an emergency landing on Earth and adopting a human form, Harry starts experiencing human feelings as he creates bonds and even grows fond of certain people. It seems he neglects his original responsibilities, instead choosing to pursue a private crusade to safeguard humanity from various alien perils.

In our previous episode, titled “Homecoming” from Season 3, we found Harry and his companions in a more precarious state than ever before. The revelation of the alien presence on Earth has been spreading, and a shapeshifting mantid alien is lurking around town, disguised as Harry (Fred Tudyk skillfully plays both roles). Unfortunately, the genuine Harry finds himself in a Grey prison on the Moon, accompanied by his newborn child, Bridget.
In a different setting, Staite’s character, Jules Gardner, is connected to Patience, Colorado. Previously, she attended high school with Asta (Sara Tomko), Deputy Liv (Elizabeth Bowen), D’arcy (Alice Wetterlund), and Ben (Levi Fiehler). However, her return isn’t for a class reunion. Instead, Gardner has been assigned to the FBI field office in Colorado Springs, and she’s in Patience to look into a string of grisly murders happening near the town, according to Deadline.
Who is Jewel Staite?
To sci-fi enthusiasts, Staite might be a familiar face; she’s been active in the industry nearly as long as she’s been alive. Her early acting roles include appearances on episodes of shows such as ‘Are You Afraid of the Dark’ (playing two distinct characters across separate episodes), ‘The X-Files’, and ‘So Weird’.
In the Canadian children’s science fiction show named “Space Cases,” Staite portrayed Catalina, a member of a group of students who found themselves adrift in deep space aboard an alien vessel. She shared the screen with Ben Foster in “Flash Forward,” a Disney Channel Original Series targeted at teenagers and preteens. The series chronicled the lives of neighbors Tucker (played by Foster) and Becca (Staite), as they navigated their way through growing up. Eventually, Staite took on the role of Chief of Medicine Dr. Jennifer Keller in “Stargate Atlantis.
In my gaming world lately, I’ve stepped into the shoes of Caroline Swift, a district attorney and love interest to Detective Stephen Holder (Joel Kinnaman), in Seasons 3 and 4 of The Killing. You might recall me as Naomi, a resilient mother navigating the aftermath of the 1989 San Francisco earthquake in an episode of Quantum Leap. I also took on the lead role of Abigail Bianchi, an alcoholic lawyer striving to regain her career and family ties, in the legal drama Family Law.
Known particularly by science fiction enthusiasts for her portrayal of Kaylee Frye, a kind mechanic who seemed to have a mystical bond with the spaceship, in the one-season hit space western series “Firefly“, Tudyk co-starred with Staite as Wash, the ship’s pilot. Now, it is Staite who is showcasing her sci-fi credibility in Season 4 of “Resident Alien“.
