Wow! I can hardly wait for Scream 7, and this recent casting announcement has me even more intrigued. It seems they might be taking an innovative approach, or perhaps revisiting something from a past movie, or maybe bringing back a character who met an untimely end. In any case, someone who was previously connected to the Scream universe is now part of the seventh installment’s cast.
According to recent reports, Scott Foley has been confirmed as the latest addition to the cast of Scream 7. This news is intriguing because the ex-star of Felicity already has a history with the franchise, even though it seemed like his character met an untimely end. Foley had previously appeared in Scream 3 as Roman Bridger. In the movie, he portrayed a filmmaker overseeing the production of Stab 3, a film within a film that was based on the life of Sidney Prescott (played by Neve Campbell) and the events in Woodsboro. At first sight, he appeared to be just an upset director dealing with his film’s deterioration, unaware that the actual Ghostface killings were wreaking havoc on his production.
Listen up everyone, I’ve got a bit of a shocker for you regarding a movie that turns 25 next month – it’s time for another spoiler alert! By the movie’s finale, we learn that Roman is Sidney’s estranged brother, conceived as a result of their mother’s traumatic experience with sexual assault in Hollywood. You might recall him as the Ghostface killer in the third installment and, interestingly enough, he masterminded the events that led Billy (Skeet Ulrich) to stalk Sidney in the initial film. The plot became quite a tangled web, reminiscent of a Scooby-Doo mystery, but here’s what happened: Roman was fatally wounded by Dewey (David Arquette), leaving us with no doubt that he was no longer among the living by the movie’s end.
‘Scream 7’ is a Mix of Returning and New Faces
In the upcoming seventh installment of “Scream,” Foley is adding to a cast that is steadily expanding. The original franchise stars, Campbell and Courteney Cox, are reprising their roles. Additionally, stars from the 2022 “Scream” and “Scream VI,” Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown, will be returning. The newcomers to the series could potentially play victims or killers, and they include Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, and Mark Consuelos.
Kevin Williamson, the original creator of the franchise, is at the helm for this installment. The inclusion of Foley in the project is intriguing because Williamson has not been secretive about his opinions on Scream 3. Since he wasn’t involved in writing the third film due to other obligations, Ehren Kruger (The Ring) took over the writing duties. Although Williamson acknowledged that there were moments and characters he appreciated (he was a fan of Parker Posey’s Jennifer Jolie), he felt that Scream 3 leaned too heavily on comedy, lacking the balance between satire and horror. Some suggest this may be why the arrangement with Patrick Dempsey, who played Detective Mark Kincaid in the third film, fell through. However, if Foley is brought into the storyline, perhaps a part of Scream 3 could be considered as part of the series’ continuity.
In Atlanta, they are currently filming Scream 7, and it appears that the creators want to refocus the franchise on Sidney, who will have at least one child in the movie (portrayed by May). There’s even speculation that she might have multiple children in the film. The previous editions were well-received, but the issues surrounding Scream VI and its development left a bad aftertaste for some fans. Many of the current decisions seem to be an attempt to make amends for those problems, at least partially.
