Scream 7 Fans Are Heartbroken Over Patrick Dempsey’s Shocking Absence!

Currently, it’s an exciting era for horror enthusiasts such as myself, with the genre experiencing a resurgence over several years. Many of the top-tier horror films have reappeared in theaters with sequels, including Wes Craven’s classic Scream. With a seventh installment on the horizon, I can tolerate the casting changes in upcoming horror movies, but it’s disappointing that Patrick Dempsey won’t be returning as Mark Kincaid.

Information about Scream 7 is still scarce, but there’s frequent updates regarding the return of original characters. Recently, it was announced that Joel McHale might play Sidney’s husband, a character also named Mark. This development has reportedly put an end to Patrick Dempsey’s potential reprisal of his role. This new casting seems to have dashed a long-held fan theory that Sidney and Kincaid got married. As an ardent fan, I find this turn of events quite disappointing.

In a different perspective, I’d like to clarify that mentioning McHale isn’t meant as criticism; he’s an impressive actor who has excelled in horror films such as “Assassination Nation”. However, it seems intentional that “Mark” was referenced as Sidney’s husband in the 2022 “Scream”, given Patrick Dempsey’s character was alive in the storyline. The addition of his role in “Grey’s Anatomy” and the rumors of his potential return, only to introduce a new character with the same name feels somewhat disappointing.

Even though Patrick Dempsey has recently ventured back into the horror genre with “Thanksgiving” on Netflix and “Dexter: Original Sin”, it appeared as if now was the ideal moment for him to make his first appearance in “Scream” since the third film. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait to discover why this plan didn’t come to fruition.

It appears that Kevin Williamson, director of Scream 7, is keen on reintroducing lesser-expected characters from the slasher series’ past. Recently, rumors have circulated about Matthew Lillard, Scott Foley, and even David Arquette potentially rejoining the franchise, despite their characters being presumed dead. Audience members are intrigued as to how these returns will play out in the plot, and it seems that the anxiety of missing out on Patrick Dempsey’s appearance may linger for a while.

I can’t wait to see Joel McHale in “Scream 7”! With his charisma and acting skills, he seems perfect for the role of Sidney’s long-absent husband in this upcoming sequel. It remains to be seen if he’ll make it through his first encounter with Ghostface, as history shows that characters close to Neve Campbell’s final girl often meet a grisly end.

The seventh installment of “Scream,” titled as such, doesn’t have a confirmed release date yet, but it is anticipated to hit theaters in the year 2026 instead of being included on the 2025 film release schedule. In the meantime, while we keep our eyes peeled for updates, the last two movies are accessible through a Paramount+ subscription and ready for streaming.
