American designer and artist Sean Wotherspoon, who gained fame for creating the Nike Air Max 97/1s, has now added another title to his resume: Global Vintage Curator at Gap. In this new position, the versatile individual will launch the GapVintage program, a collection sourced from around the world and released in a series of seasonal drops throughout the year.
Wotherspoon expressed enthusiasm about Gap’s decision to manage the supply of its vintage items more carefully and expand the vintage program further, given that it was initially introduced approximately two years ago. He is eager to make GapVintage accessible to a global audience of young people as the market for vintage and secondhand goods becomes increasingly popular.
Initially, the debut of this program will encompass some cherished vintage Gap items that Wotherspoon adores, which hail from the ’80s and ’90s. Among these are classic pieces such as the ’90s Striped Pocket T-shirt and the Classic Logo Hoodie from Gap, along with more scarce clothing like the ’80s Denim Jacket Hoodie and ’90s Nylon Anorak Zip-Up Windbreaker.
Starting from February 4, 12 p.m. ET, you can purchase the initial GapVintage collection through Gap’s online store within the United States. The collection will debut in selected pop-ups located in Shinjuku, Tokyo, on February 1, and in Osaka on February 8. Browse through the gallery above to get a sneak peek at the offerings.
