Second Dinner ditches Nuverse as Marvel Snap publisher, partners with Skystone Games

  • Second Dinner has officially cut ties with Nuverse as publisher of Marvel Snap
  • The developer is now partnered with US-based publisher Skystone Games
  • It caps off a truly remarkable series of events in the wake of the Bytedance TikTok ban

It seems that following Marvel Snap’s abrupt removal from app stores due to Bytedance’s TikTok situation, developer Second Dinner has decided to part ways with publisher Nuverse. In a tweet on their official account, Second Dinner announced they would now be working with Skystone Games, a publisher based in the United States.

This concludes an extraordinary sequence of occurrences for numerous titles released by Nuverse and other Bytedance affiliates, including Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and Marvel Snap, following their involvement in the TikTok ban a few weeks prior. It appeared as though Bytedance was making a risky move to deny users access to their preferred apps, leading to a vow by then President-elect Donald Trump to reinstate service.

The situation took an unexpected turn compared to his past efforts to block ByteDance’s main app, TikTok was quickly reinstated with minimal complications, but other gaming companies found themselves in a predicament. Specifically, Second Dinner was not informed about Snap being removed, and they’ve been working diligently for several weeks now to reinstate their service.

Though Bytedance’s TikTok gamble proved fruitful for them, I can’t help but think many developers weren’t too pleased when their project releases were abruptly disrupted in such a blatant and unforeseen manner. It seems clear to me that the swiftness of this separation suggests there’s been significant backlash from developers within Nuverse’s ranks.

As a gamer, I can’t help but ponder if ByteDance’s relentless effort to preserve TikTok might be inadvertently hindering their ambitious foray into the gaming world. From the looks of it, Second Dinner shares my suspicion.
