Secrets Behind Glen Campbell’s Biopic: Young Star & Mind-Bending Story

James Keach has had a captivating life, often finding himself connected to other remarkable individuals. Alongside his brother Stacy, he co-wrote and acted in the acclaimed Western film, “The Long Riders.” This movie caught the attention of Johnny Cash, leading to a close friendship between Cash, June Carter, and Keach. Later, Keach was instrumental in creating and producing the biopic “Walk the Line” about Johnny Cash’s life.

Not only was Cash a friend, but so was iconic musician Glen Campbell. Together, they collaborated on a movie as well. The moving, Oscar-nominated documentary “Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me” chronicles Campbell’s “Goodbye Tour” and his struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Now, Keach is planning to give Campbell the same treatment he gave Cash by creating an intimate biographical drama.

In an interview about Alzheimer’s disease, Keach mentioned that they are creating a film resembling the “Walk the Line” style to tell the story of Glen Campbell. This is the focus of his new movie, “Taking Care”, which delves into how this disease affected Seth Rogen and his wife, Lauren Miller Rogen, who established Hilarity for Charity to increase understanding and funds for the cause. Keach expressed that in Campbell’s situation, it was truly remarkable that he could still sing despite the disease.

Tony Bennett serves as another illustration of this condition, continuing to sing even when he momentarily forgot who his wife was. It’s both intriguing and sad, a disease we all hope to avoid. Regrettably, it seems unavoidable for many.

Keach shared his plans for the Campbell biopic with MovieWeb: “We plan to cast him quite young. This way, he can experience his character as a young man, just like we all do when looking back at ourselves. It’s similar to how I view myself on this screen. I don’t see myself as the person in this photo. Instead, I recall myself from ‘The Long Riders,’ at the age of 29, riding down the street and kicking up a fuss. In my mind, I’m still that guy. But when I look in the mirror, I realize that I am indeed this person.

Casting Young Glen Campbell

The film’s narrative primarily revolves around Campbell during his “Goodbye Tour,” similar to Keach’s documentary. However, it incorporates flashbacks frequently, as if glimpses of Campbell’s life are passing before his eyes as his thoughts wander. About casting a young Campbell, Keach said, “It’s someone who must appreciate music deeply.” He further added, “Glen was an exceptional musician and had a great sense of humor.” The film still focuses on the final tour, but it shows Campbell reminiscing about his entire life. This is a unique perspective, reminiscent of Alzheimer’s-like experiences. Keach clarified these details.

Alzheimer’s has a unique quality: your thoughts can wander freely, just like during meditation or any introspective activity. This shows us that our minds have the ability to traverse time effortlessly. In Alzheimer’s, this characteristic becomes a symptom of the disease itself, as it affects the mind.

Keach hinted that the chosen actor for Glen Campbell might be a newcomer yet to make their debut, so we’ll have to stay tuned to discover who will step into Glen Campbell’s shoes. In other news, “Taking Care” is now streaming on digital platforms such as Apple TV, Amazon, and others. You can watch it here. For more details about Hilarity for Charity, click here.
