As a huge fan of Glen Powell, I was thrilled to see his appearance on The TODAY Show promoting his new disaster film, Twisters. His charm and charisma were on full display as he took selfies with fans in the New York heat before being put on the spot for a real weather forecast.
Glen Powell is well-known for portraying tornado chasers in movies like “Twisters.” However, his knowledge about real-life weather was questioned when he was asked to deliver a genuine weather forecast. The opportunity revealed that Powell’s on-screen experience came in handy as he effectively conveyed the weather information to American viewers.
On “The TODAY Show,” Powell made an appearance as a guest, sharing the news about Twisters. Prior to going on air, he mingled with fans in the sweltering New York summer, taking selfies and posing for pictures. Before the broadcast began, the show’s hosts presented him with a genuine weather map. At first, Powell appeared a bit disoriented, but soon regained his composure and delivered an impressive, off-the-cuff interpretation of the national weather chart. Here is a clip from the interview: [X]
Although Powell might not possess the extensive expertise of a professional meteorologist, his initial analysis was commendable. He recognized certain weather concepts such as “cold front,” and even though he didn’t have enough time to delve deeply into details, I believe he managed to complete the assignment successfully. As he put it, he is confident in his abilities, and I would tentatively rely on him to guide me through an unpredictable tornado situation. Powell’s background in dealing with chaotic storms on set for movies like “Twister” is noteworthy. While many people may be impressed by his remarkable stunts for the film, it’s clear that he also engaged in mental preparation.
As a big fan of Powell’s work, I’m thrilled to see him take on extreme weather in his latest film, “Twisters.” In this project, he assumes the role of Tyler Owens, a social media influencer with a knack for storm chasing. Gaining popularity through his posts, Tyler finds himself in Oklahoma where the tornadoes turn particularly volatile. Facing one of his most perilous adventures yet, Powell’s charisma and charm shine through, as evidenced by the positive early reviews. The movie boasts an impressive cast, including Daisy Edgar-Jones and the talented Anthony Ramos from “Hamilton.”
Luckily, according to Powell’s interpretation of current weather charts, there are no signs of destructive tornadoes in Oklahoma or any other locations at present. However, the New York heat wave shows no signs of abating, making the remaining stops on Powell and his “Twisters” co-stars’ press tour a sweltering affair. With his impressive acting skills demonstrated in numerous high-profile projects this year, Powell has certainly proven himself as an accomplished actor. Yet, if he ever considers a change of pace, meteorology could be an intriguing alternative career path for him. Who knows? He might even become the most popular weatherman in America.
Glen Powell stars in the widely-expected “Twisters,” opening in theaters across the country on July 19th. If you’d like to watch its prequel, “Twister,” you can stream it with a Max subscription.
