It’s often said that actions reveal a person’s true nature more than words, and this is particularly evident when observing how celebrities behave around their fans. Among all public interactions, appearing at a sports event might be the most prominent, as it’s witnessed by countless people. A recent incident involving two well-known actors on a jumbotron serves as a striking example of the diverse ways celebrities handle being recognized in public.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Jeff Goldblum separately attended the same 49ers football game recently, and so of course they ended up on the jumbotron with their names plastered underneath. Their responses to being put on the big screen could not have been more opposite. In a video posted to Instagram, DiCaprio barely glances up from his phone, his black cap pulled down tight, whereas the Wicked cast member shows the crowd some love by standing up and waving, dancing along to the music.

Frankly speaking, I’m not shocked by their distinct public personas. The actor from “Jurassic Park” tends to be more expressive in public compared to the star of “Killers of the Flower Moon.” This difference might stem from the fact that the internet generally treats Goldblum more favorably, while DiCaprio often encounters harsh discussions about his personal relationships.
As a film fanatic, I’d say it could be suggested that Leo DiCaprio might opt for anonymity to preserve his tranquility. With an impressive career spanning over three decades and gracing some of the most iconic films, it’s no wonder people would recognize him due to his stardom. Yet, even Jeff Goldblum, aged 72, is equally recognizable in his notable roles.
In an environment where you have a personal room all to yourself and your name is displayed on a live broadcast, it wouldn’t be harmful to show a little less caution. Perhaps flash a smile or a friendly wave. Even minor acts of positivity can make a significant impact in the eyes of the public.
Consider Taylor Swift as an illustration. When she began attending games played by her boyfriend Travis Kelce (Chiefs player), some Chiefs fans vigorously booed her. The hostility towards her excessive screen time during the game was not aimed at the NFL or the broadcasting network, but Taylor didn’t let it affect her. Game after game, she kept on smiling and waving, even chugging a beer at the Super Bowl. In the end, online comments concluded that despite her celebrity status and wealth, Swift is much like everyone else. Isn’t that intriguing?
It’s clear that the actor from Inception didn’t enhance his reputation by ignoring fans and picking his nose on camera, but Goldblum continued to strengthen his internet legend. To put it simply, as long as you aren’t representing the opposing team, a jumbotron appearance is generally beneficial for any upcoming project in the 2025 movie schedule. I hope DiCaprio learned something from Goldblum’s methods!
