2025’s Oscar night was a significant event for both the winners themselves and those tuning in or providing live commentary. It was equally grand for others, like Nick Pauley, who is famously known as Dancing Deadpool (or Dancepool for short). He made an appearance during Conan O’Brien’s musical finale, but his most notable moment might have been right before he took the stage.
Pauley posted a short clip to Instagram where he’s standing backstage at the 97th annual Oscars just before emerging during O’Brien’s musical number. He’s clearly a little nervous, which isn’t all that shocking, but he quickly gets focused when Robert Downey Jr. walks by and gives him a fist bump. Even through the mask, you can tell his mind has been completely blown. Check it out.

It’s perfectly appropriate that Pauley, known for his dance in the iconic opening credits of Deadpool & Wolverine, was invited back to reenact his role at the Academy Awards, despite it being just a brief appearance. The experience must have been quite thrilling for him, and isn’t everyone captivated by the thought of wearing a Marvel costume and receiving a fist bump from Robert Downey Jr?
In a graceful gesture, Downey seemed unfazed by the mysterious figure in Deadpool attire behind the scenes. It’s uncertain if the Academy Award recipient was aware of his presence or mistakenly believed it was Ryan Reynolds he was greeting with a fist bump. Regardless, he acknowledged the character known as Wade Wilson was preparing to take the stage and offered him well wishes.
Not only that, but Nick Pauley also shared more photos from the event – among them, a picture of him with Robert Downey Jr. and Keiran Culkin after Pauley won his Best Supporting Actor Oscar. It’s clear that Nick had an unforgettable time at the Oscars, as the photographs attest.

Hold on, there’s yet another intriguing tidbit about the Oscars! This third post showcases a brief act starring Dancepool and Academy Award winner Halle Berry. There were whispers that Storm might appear in Deadpool & Wolverine, but those turned out to be unfounded. Frankly, it seems like a regrettable decision, as we would have loved to witness this collaboration…

Although Nick Pauley didn’t receive an award nomination, it’s clear he stole the show at this year’s Oscars. Landing the role of Dancepool was undoubtedly a significant milestone and a massive career boost, but that breakthrough has opened up even more remarkable prospects for him.
Regardless if Dancepool appears again, it’s unlikely that the person under the mask has hung up his dancing shoes permanently. Should Ryan Reynolds require another dance double in future, he certainly knows who to contact.
