The celebration for the fifth anniversary of Selena Gomez‘s “Rare” album has been delayed because of the destructive wildfires in Los Angeles.
On Thursday, the pop star and actress expressed her sadness about the ongoing wildfires affecting our Los Angeles community on her Instagram Stories. She stated that the well-being and safety of her team and the community are paramount, leading to the decision to postpone the “Rare: The Pop-Up” event in collaboration with Complex. Further details and new dates for the event will be shared soon. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this difficult time.
The event was planned for January 10th to 12th. Additionally, Gomez shared a sequence of links on her Stories to evacuation shelters, aid for animals and first responders, as well as mental health resources. In another Instagram Story, she expressed, “As a team based in Los Angeles, our emotions are with California as we confront enormous wildfires that have jeopardized communities, displaced families, and demolished homes.
In 2020, the album “Rare” was unveiled, topping the Billboard 200 charts on its first release and boasting the No. 1 single “Lose You to Love Me.” The title of Gomez’s thriving cosmetics line, Rare Beauty, is a nod to her album.
Due to the raging wildfires in Hollywood, numerous events have been rescheduled or suspended. This includes potential nominations for the Academy Awards, where Gomez might receive recognition for her performance in “Emilia Pérez”. The announcement of these nominees has been moved from January 17th to the 19th. Moreover, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has extended the voting period. Screenings for “A Better Man”, “Unstoppable”, “The Last Showgirl” and “Wolf Man” have also been delayed or canceled.
Numerous celebrity homes, such as those belonging to Billy Crystal, Paris Hilton, Mandy Moore, Eugene Levy, Anna Faris, Cary Elwes, Spencer Pratt, Heidi Montag, James Woods, Diane Warren, Cameron Mathison, and Ricki Lake, have been devastated by destruction. Tragically, five lives have been lost, and over a thousand structures have been razed to the ground.
