Start strong with these beginner tips to avoid early stumbles and build a solid settlement.
Get the Best Start in Sengoku Dynasty With These Tips
In simple terms, the Sengoku Dynasty is a game that lets you explore and survive in an open world, while also constructing a village, all during the chaotic era of feudal Japan known as the Sengoku period.
As a game’s protagonist, I find myself stepping into the shoes of a resilient leader, tasked with building and growing a flourishing community in the midst of turbulent times. The battlefield is my canvas, and survival is my mission.
Here’s a guide with handy beginner tips to get you going and grow your dynasty.
1. Complete Objectives First to Learn the Basics
Upon entering the realm of the Sengoku Dynasty, the game gives you a list of initial tasks to help you get started.
These may look like basic lessons, but they’re essential for understanding the game’s mechanics.
They teach you to gather resources, craft tools, and build settlements.
These tasks also provide you with some basic items and gear to prepare you for what’s ahead.
Some players may be tempted to skip these objectives and rush into the open world.
While exploration is thrilling, it’s better to focus on these missions initially.
As a gamer, I find that wrapping up the initial missions equips me with essential gear and introduces me to vital Non-Player Characters (NPCs) who dish out exciting quests and valuable resources.
After achieving these tasks, you’ll find the game easier to understand and your journey through it significantly more enjoyable.
2. Always Carry Spare Tools and Weapons
Durability is key in the Sengoku Dynasty, as tools and weapons wear down with use.
If a spare is found in your supplies, it will automatically be prepared, keeping you continuously prepared.
It’s always prudent to have backup options available, as running out of resources might leave you in a vulnerable situation, potentially stranded and exposed.
For example, keep an extra axe for gathering wood or a spare bow for hunting.
When you’re away from your settlement, tools become essential because it’s preferable not to return to create a new set.
Even in combat, a spare yari (spear) or knife can save your life. Having extra tools and weapons on you keeps things from slowing down.
3. Prioritize Helping Chiyone the Shrine Maiden
When your first house is ready, three NPCs will reach out for help.
You can pick any of their quests, but starting with Chiyone’s quest is the most rewarding.
Chiyone, a temple attendant, is located to the east of Sosogi, near the flowing river, encompassed by blooming cherry trees and bamboo groves.
She has a few straightforward chores: locate an egg, prepare it, and present it at Inari’s Shrine.
Here’s your reward for finishing the quest: A bag of Gobo Seeds. Plant them now, and you’ll be well on your way to establishing an early farm and ensuring a steady food supply.
To ensure a bountiful yield from your plants, make sure you complete this task by the end of the fourth day of Spring.
Ahead of your settlement’s development, farming plays an essential role. Completing this task ahead of time grants you a substantial advantage.
4. Focus on Tools Before Weapons
During the Sengoku Era, conflicts were prevalent, however, at the outset, it’s more crucial to concentrate on constructing villages and accumulating resources rather than engaging in combat right away.
Essential tools such as axes and pickaxes play a crucial role in gathering wood and stones, necessary items for building structures and creating tools.
Without them, your settlement won’t grow, or your dynasty won’t survive.
While crafting weapons might be tempting, tools provide more immediate advantages.
To illustrate, establishing a Woodcutter’s Hut ahead of time enables you to automate the creation of wooden planks, thus conserving both time and materials.
Later, when you’re ready for combat, you’ll also have a solid base to fall back on.
Focusing on tools rather than weapons sets you up for long-term success.
5. Master Stamina Management in Combat
Stamina is what makes or breaks combat in Sengoku Dynasty.
The yellow bar represents stamina, influencing attacks, dodges, and parries.
If your stamina hits zero, you can’t do anything but move, leaving you exposed to enemy strikes.
Check that your stamina bar is topped off before heading into battle.
Take a defensive stance during combat, holding back your stamina until an opening appears.
When your enemy’s guard weakens, deliver a rapid barrage of strikes to shatter their defenses.
Once you break through, striking repeatedly and finishing the battle is often easier.
If you find yourself losing a battle, remember not to worry excessively. The consequences for defeat are manageable: upon revival at your current dwelling, you’ll find yourself with reduced vitality and provisions, and a small portion (10%) of your coins will be lost.
While the coin loss can sting, it’s manageable, especially if you’re still early in the game.
Use these risks as chances to learn, and don’t shy away from combat altogether.
6. Reassign Villager Jobs Every Season
As your settlement grows, you’ll rely heavily on villagers for resource production.
As I dive into a new season, I find myself needing to tweak my villagers’ jobs to ensure our resource management stays on point. Each shift in weather brings about different needs, so it’s essential to adapt accordingly.
For instance, you could focus on farming during Spring and woodcutting in Winter.
At the start of every new season, verify that the duties of the villagers align with your settlement’s requirements for a smooth operation.
Empowering your villagers with suitable tools and resources allows them to achieve far greater productivity than what a single person could manage on their own.
Keep on top of these tasks, and your settlement will thrive year-round.
